We will totally bribe. If she understood it now, girlfriend would be sleeping through the night, and mama would be spending a lot of $ on candy!

Yes. I mentioned it to my pediatrician and his response was "well, I personally am not in favor of negotiating with little terrorists, but you gotta do what you gotta do...." lol

@yoursilverlining: My sister is a professional political operative and she joked that she should hire E to do her negotiations.... changes the terms constantly!

Who doesn't?
Not daily, but when there's a need, we find a way

@prettylizy: Toddlers are masters are negotiations....because they hold all the cards! Oh you don't want a meltdown in the middle of the store mom...well, pass over the bribe then!!

Yes!! He's obsessed with Altoids mints and chocolate chips so I will bribe him with one now and again. "If you eat your dinner you can have a chocolate chip!" It works great!

Yes! I never knew how effective it was until I tried it.
@yoursilverlining: LOL little terrorists indeed!

We used to like crazy, but it snowballed so we had to cut way, way back!

A little. I think my last one was with veggies and attending her friend's party the next day. It worked.

We don't for every day things though for dinner we do usually have dessert after so she only gets dessert if she eats dinner. I'm not sure if that's a bribe or not. I find them really useful in teaching something new. Like potty training or learning to read. Sometimes I have trouble focusing Lo long enough but if there's a reward system she pays attention a lot longer.

I'm going to start bribing my kid to nap at daycare.

"You can have two jellybeans if you....." Is how I start most sentences for our 32 month old. So, yeah.

@mediagirl: oh no she's not napping there?! I tried bribing for naps and that's one thing that it doesn't work for!

Are there people who don't bribe? I just bribed my daughter with 62 cents to get her to put her coat on.

Yup, usually for dinner time ("If you try a bite of dinner, you can watch Peppa Pig later...").

Only if things get harried. Like at a wedding, I will give them candy to keep them quiet! Or once I told them they could get a new beanie boo if they were good at another event.
More often I find myself pulling the "you won't get a story if..." route, taking things away instead of sweetening the pot. Seems to work for my kiddos!

Any parent who says they don't is a liar!
Really, though, sometimes we have to!

Absolutely! Incentive makes the world go 'round! I asked a child psychologist about it, and he was all for it, and asked me, 'do people go to work out of the goodness of their hearts, or for their paychecks?

all day, every day. (really that's not much of an exaggeration...)

I don't, but DH bribes/negotiates with DS and it drives me crazy...because it DOESN'T work! "If you eat all your chicken nuggets...you can have a cookie." Then he goes and gives him the cookie anyway. I told him at dinner tonight that we need to tighten it up and stop doing that! We meaning he.
