If you love the name I would go for it. Fwiw my mom sometimes called us the wrong names and none of us had a name with the same letter.

I went to high school with a girl who was one of five siblings whose names all started with Nat. I thought that was impressive. I'm on the fence about this too. I don't mind if other siblings have similar names, but I grew up as one of three and one of us has a really unique name and it always seemed odd to me. Fwi, all of our names got mixed up even though they are not even close. DH's favorite boys name sounds similar to Ds' and I don't know if I could go for it for that reason.

Personally, I could never give my LOs similar names. DH and I both have names that begin with "K" and I refuse to use any names for LOs that start with K (or even that sound with a C). It is just too matchy-matchy for my tastes.

My girls' names are really similar, but they start with different letters. I think they sound like sister names.

I didn't want them to be too similar but I can think of lots of names that start with the same letter and are two syllables but aren't that alike. My siblings and I start with the same letter- I wouldn't do that with five kids like my parents did but if we loved two names that both had the same letter is be ok with it.

I just wouldn't do rhyming names (Grace and Chase, Tara and Sarah).

If you love it, use it. My DH, son and I all start with L (as does our last name). Everyone thought we would give DD an L name, but we went with something else. My mom was one of 8 kids, all with the initials JLS. My DH and his 2 brothers are all L names.

I agree that as long as they dint rhyme, you should go for it. I want my kids two names to "go" together in the sense that it sounded right that one set of parents would choose both names. So I didn't want one really classic/popular name and then one really out there unique name.

I'd like to name my kids in a somewhat similar naming style, but certainly not rhyming. If we have a second boy and I got my way they would share the same first name letter.

If I have another girl, I actually plan on their names to start with the same letter and the name we like is also 2 syllabus! Haha, I'm that mom and I love it!

@californiadreams: I don't think they sound too matchy at all. In fact it's a little bit of my point above that Liam is quite popular and Louis is a name you don't hear very often any more, so very different vibes to me.

@californiadreams: I would use the same first letter without hesitation, especially if I loved the name. My only concern would be popularity. That being said, I was concerned with LO's name because it was #40 on the popularity list and most people have never heard it before and struggle the first time we tell them.

I personally don't think I would use two names with the same letter. But the names you've chosen actually seem pretty different to me. One is French, the other Irish. I do really like your second name, and if it's a name you like, then don't let the shared first letter stop you.

Growing up I didn't have a matchy name with my brother, but my mom and I share first names that start with K/C sound (and they're 2 syllables) and my brother and dad both have one syllable names that start with M, and we did occasionally get comments on the matchy-ness. So be prepared that you will probably gets comments over the years as well.

@californiadreams: DS is Liam, and Louis/Louie was on our boy name list for #2. #2 is a girl, and her name will most likely be Lucy.

We hesitated a bit about the Ls but I have so many friends and family whose children share a first initial, I don't think anyone will bat an eye. We didn't go searching for "matchy" names, just happened to like another L name the best.

We have 2 boys and their names are 3 letter 1 syllable names. Their first names aren't very common and both boys have 2 middle names. We'd like to keep that trend if we have a third boy in July.

I like the names you have chosen together.

Edit to add: my husbands grandparents had j names and they named all 3 kids j names too.
