A few people suggested this recently, and I've been looking into it! It sounds almost too good to be true... *crossing fingers* Will try it out and report back!
Do you check out ebooks from the library?

I have before for kindle! I just have trouble remembering my library login to get more

Just checked out 2 tonight! It's hard to get a hold of popular titles but I usually browse the autobiography section for interesting sounding memoirs. I've found lots of good books that way!

@mrbee: Yup! There isn't as much of a selection for e-books as there are (obviously) regular books, but there is always something that sounds interesting. I have four books on hold right now hoping one of them is ready for me soon.

Yes it's amazing. And if you need more time with a book, you can just turn off the wifi on your kindle and the book will stay on as long as you need (until you turn wifi back on).

Yes, I love it! With how much I'm reading lately (like 8-10+ books/mo) I'd go broke if I bought books. Almost everything I read is from the library.

Yes, tons. The New York public library and brooklyn public library have so many to choose from! I actually loaned my login info to an out of town friend so she could enjoy their selection also.

Yup. And I discovered the same thing as @hummusgirl so it is awesome.

Yes it's the only way I read now! I keep 4-5 books on my holds list at all times so one is always becoming available.

Yep, but there are always holds on the popular titles. It's really awesome, but the draw backs for my system are that you can't renew and have a very limited time after it's your turn in the wait list to download it.

I specifically bought a kobo for this reason (canadian libraries ebook software don't work with kindle). Sometimes I'll place two holds - one on the hard copy & one on the ebook & read whichever one comes in first. The only thing that really sucks about it is they only allow you to have 10 titles checked out at a time, and if a title becomes available they only hold it for 96 hours.

I have in the past, but i'm not a particularly fast reader, so I can rarely finish in 2 weeks. I prefer to download...

yes i love it! It sounds too good to be true but it is so great! I usually only have time to read on vacation but I just got the new robert galbraith (jk rowling) mystery book from when i put my name on the hold list a million years ago and it is a page turner. it is so easy!

I have but the only problem is the wait. I usually like to get popular and new books. Sucks when you see '365 holds on 115 copies'.
Oh, I don't know if this still works, but if you loan a ebook and you turn off the wifi on your kindle, you might be able to continue reading the book after it's 'return date.'

Yup! And I discovered the same thing as hummusgirl too. Actually, I don't even turn off the wifi, I just don't navigate away from the book until I finish it. I've been reading Goldfinch for almost two months now (oops)... but my loan ended last month!

@bluestriped bee: yes, this works! But it still returns the book so that someone else can borrow it. You just can't download anything else until you're ready to give them back
