It is hard not to compare but I think it's ok to do it in your head. You just don't want to do it in front of them.

And I totally forgot #2's name at her first check up. We always call her by a nickname and I had to give her real name at the doc and I drew a blank for a second. It takes time to process that you have another LO and to get used to a new name!

i definitely do! i think it's because your first is all you know up to this point, so it throws you for a loop when you have a 2nd and realize it's a completely different person. different doesn't mean bad and comparing isn't always bad - i think it's just how our brains make sense of the world and it's perfectly normal!

we just have to learn to elevate their individual strengths, and not compare in a bad way or do it too much out loud in front of them.

I'm worried about this too, my husband has been making fun of me because after the ultrasound for LO2 I kept talking about how much better LO1 pictures and bouncing skills were and sometimes I forget I'm pregnant with LO2, I can see where poor middle child syndrome comes in.
