We just got a video monitor over the weekend, and we can't stop watching it! I feel so stalker-ish. Right now I'm just watching LO kick around in his crib with his eyes open, even though I put him down about 45 mins ago!
We keep the sound on, but I've heard a lot of people don't?

I keep the sound on since her room is on the other side of the house from our bedroom. I just keep it on the lowest volume.

We keep the sound off. There are lights at the top of ours that go from green to orange to red if he starts fussing / crying. His room is near ours and we are WELL AWARE if he's unhappy, too.
And yes, I'm a baby stalker. If I wake-up in the middle of the night I will often check the monitor. He will sometimes really freak me out and be awake at like 2 AM just looking around his room. Creeper baby.

I used to do both, and then I turned the sound off and just kept the video on, and then I finally reversed it and turned video off and kept sound low. I've already decided this next child I'm going back to a classic one, I'm selling mine as it was keeping me from getting necessary sleep.

With my 1st child, I did. This time, I just check it every so often. I keep it at the lowest level when I'm asleep.
With your next child you'll be too tired to check it all the time or let it wake you up!

We keep our sound on. I don't know why - I can hear him loud and clear through the wall! I only turn the screen on when I want to sneak a peak or during naps.

no sound...we have a small house and I can hear big noises. I only leave the video on when lo is playing in his room alone.

We keep the sound off because he's right across the hall. I check the video once before I go to bed, but that's really it. He's 2 though - I definitely checked it more often as a baby.

It's fun 
But we keep the sound off because she's down the hall--we can hear her if she is crying for sure. We'll check it when she's going down for a nap because she has a habit of throwing everything out of her bed.

I like to keep the screen on during the evening but the sound off. At night, we are in the room next door so I keep sound and screen off, flicking it on if I hear her making noise.

Ours has a sleep mode that turns off the video and sound if there is movement or irregular noise (i.e. not from the white noise) so we keep it on that.

Our house isn't big so we can hear LO. We only turn the monitor on when hear her and want to see what she's up to - like if she's really up for the day. I don't think we've turned the volume on since she was a week old.

Yep I pretty much always keep the sound on. I stare at it while she is falling asleep then I generally just set it next to me and glance at it every so often.

I keep the sound on for when we're watching TV or something in the living room because it's easier to hear her that way. I turn it off at night though, otherwise all the sounds the radiator in her room makes wake me/keep me from getting into a deep sleep. I don't usually watch it anymore, only quick checks.

I turn the sound off because he's right down the hall so there's no point. We don't leave it on...we just check every once in a while or if he makes noise.

I used to watch it constantly--but ours broke when LO was around 12 months, and I parent much better without it! I think if we had a bigger place with multiple stories, I would have more use for it.

I am not the kind of person that could have a video monitor. I would literally bring it everywhere and never put it down. I knew this about myself, so we opted for the cheapest, simple sound monitor.
@LBee: Haha! Nothing like a baby's glowing eyes at 2:00 am to mess with you!

@Meridian: Infant Optics DXR-5. We like it a lot and you can add additional cameras (up to 4) for multiple rooms. The only thing I don't love about it is that it really sucks up your wireless bandwidth, but I suspect that most video ones do that.
