My name is somewhat uncommon and there is no standard spelling, so it gets misspelled all the time (there is a famous singer with my name, but her name isn't spelled the same way as mine). It doesn't bother me, but I do correct it if necessary. I do the same for my LOs' names.

My name has a creative spelling and midway through college I spelled out both my first and my unique maiden name. Now, I don't correct people unless it matters for example they need to send me an email or if someone needs to look up something official for me like a medical record.

I have a pretty common name, spelled the "right" way, but there are many spelling variations so I try not to get too upset if a different spelling is used. My favorite is a personalized "Baby's 1st Christmas" ornament a family friend had personalized. I guess she didn't know what spelling my parents went with because it is the weirdest combination of ALL the spellings that I have ever seen!!
The only time I was ever really mad was at the job I had in grad school. One of the women in the office kept calling me Wendy (not even remotely similar to my name). I would correct her every time, but in her mind I was Wendy. It made me mad because my e-mail alias was MYFIRSTNAME@....., yet I would still get emails that started with Wendy. Dude, you obviously know what my name is because you had to write out my email address. But she was kind of a bitch and I'm convinced she did it to get on my nerves, because no one is that stupid, right???

I spell my name a little different (1 letter) than the popular spelling. SO many people at work, while they can SEE my name clearly within an email, still type it the other way I don't bother...

No one misspells my first name.
there are two common spellings for my last name, so I usually spell it whenever I know it will be written down. In three years of marriage, I've never had someone misspell it.

Verbally, I would, and mine is rarely misspelled but I do correct people on my daughters' names. In writing, like an email, I just reply with it spelled correctly and hope they notice.

Everyone has an 80 year old grandma with my name and everyone still spells it wrong. Thanks mom and dad. Unless it's an important legal document, I don't worry about it.
My oldest is pretty simply spelled, but everyone tries to add their K's and Y's to it, I just say it's the traditional spelling.
I feel bad for my second, my husband was hung up on an older spelling of the name, so we compromised- I got the name if we spelled it that way. Poor soul, I feel his pain, but he'll get used to it in no time

@youboots: Of course I remember ... because you always remind me. Hahaha. I can fix it!

I never do. I have one of those common names that has a like 5 different common spellings. I never correct people. It doesn't bother me that much.

I have a name that can be spelled five different wars, while mine is a more common spelling, there is more than one common spelling.
It depends who it is, honestly. If it's a friend who has been consistently doing it, I might point it out. Or if I realize that someone misspelling it will cause me grief- like a work or important document.
Sometimes I'm more passive about correcting people- like for example, my instructor was spelling my name wrong for the first month of this semester. It boggled my mind because she got my name straight from the registrar, where it is my legal name/correct spelling! I didn't correct her, but if she spelled it wrong at the hospital on the whiteboards, I'd go fix it. She caught on and has since been spelling it correctly.
On another note: how much does it bother other people when strangers give you grief on how you spell your name?! I have had multiple people suggest I should change the spelling of my name. That is just so rude to me!
Because of my life long battle of name grief- I take other people's names very seriously and I pride myself on knowing how to correctly spell friends' names. It's so personal, and such a little thing you can do.

There are two variations of my name, one with an "o" (very uncommon) and one with an "a". Every one with my name (even celebrities) use the "a". To me, they are pronounced differently so I correct people if they use a "o".
My last name is big, complicated, and Polish. I let that one slide.

I have yet to find a polite way to correct people on my name. It can be masculine (J@mie), so I get mail/email to Mr. last name all the time (or Dr. Last name even though I don't have a Ph.D.) frequently. I do correct people who misspell H's name because it is super ugly spelled the other way.

I absolutely correct them by starting my response with: "actually, my name is MaryBeth, not Mary" especially if it's someone with whom you'll correspond with regularly. I even changed the spelling to MaryBeth (removing the space), and have a signature as well...But still, 5 out of 10 times, I get "Hi Mary!". It drives me nuts!

I have the female version of a unisex name (and it is the nickname for one of the #1 name in the 80s) and I'm either constantly referred too by the "full" name which I am not or it is frequently spelled the boy way in emails even though my email address is clear. annoying but I never correct email, only say "actually it's just .... not ...."

My name is pretty common, but can be spelled multiple ways, so its frequently misspelled. Honestly I've gotten so used to it I never bother to say anything, but it is annoying in emails and when people who used to spell it correctly all of a sudden start spelling it a different way.

There is really only 2 common variations but I would only correct if it was important - otherwise, meh. Everyone knows how to pronounce it, yay to having a top 5 name in the 80's

I usually don't unless they specifically ask if they spelled it correctly. I figure I could spend my whole like being frustrated at people, so as long as I know what they are getting at, I don't say anything.

My name is a common one - Stephanie (which i consider the common spelling) however i get it spelled with "F"s and "Y"s all the time.... even my grandmother still sends me cards with my name spelled wrong.
the poor kids in my daughters preschool just cant pronounce my daughters name and they call her "FIN-o-na" I think its so funny when she corrects them "its FI-O-NA!"
