I was told yesterday that I should drink fluoridated water because it will help prevent cavities in the baby's teeth. Anyone else heard this? Do you drink fluoridated water?

I drink fluoridated water, but I don't know how that would affect a baby (I'm assuming you breastfeed? even then it seems like a long shot). I think that when they're really young, too much fluoride can cause staining of the enamel so you may want to check with a dentist and pediatrician about that. For people with mature teeth, fluoride in water is generally a good thing.

I've heard the opposite - Fluoride is actually really bad for you. It's in city water and a reason why you should use filters for city water.

@tororojo: It was my dentist who told me to drink one glass of fluoridated water a day. Our county doesn't have fluorine in the water.
