We don't because meat is so expensive we just can't afford to eat it every day. It's a bummer, I love meat and grew up eating it at every meal. We only eat it 2-3 times a week for dinner.
How about you?

We never have beef or pork as main course anymore, only chicken (maybe once every week or so). There are some inexpensive cuts, though. I love chicken thigh and split chicken breast. I can usually find some for $2-3/lb.

We dont. We eat a lot of meals that are spinach, mushrooms, goat cheese, and tomatoes. I add and take out ingredients depending on what I have in the house.

Pretty much every night. We're big meat eaters, though I go through stages where I wouldn't mind avoiding it. But I know I wouldn't be taking in enough protein without it. We stock up on a lot of wild game, though, since my husband hunts, and a whole deer and wild hog can get you through quite a few meals. He's duck hunting in the morning, so I suspect that'll be for dinner.

@mrsmate: we buy chicken thighs too because they're cheaper

yah every night. usually fish or chicken. a meal without meat feels lonely to me!

DH wouldn't consider it a meal if there wasn't meat!! lol!! I will occasionally skip the meat and go with a salad for dinner, but for the most part, we always have some sort of meat with dinner.

We started doing meatless Monday and now we're up to eating meat only 2-3 times a week, usually in rather small quantities. Don't get me wrong, I love meat, but I think it's better to have a small carbon footprint and better for our health.

No, we don't have meat every night. We're very concerned with where our meat comes from, how the animals were treated, and what they were fed. We only buy from trusted ranches and it's not cheap.
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@keiki_mama: Same here. We mostly eat meat that our family has raised and if we need some meat that we couldn't self-source, we are very careful about where it comes from and how it was raised.

We eat meat about half the time (2-3 nights a week, and one of those is usually leftovers), usually chicken. We eat a lot of sweet potatoes, lentils and black beans.

Yes. ESP eating paleo... I eat beef or chicken at every meal except bfast which is eggs.

We eat mostly chicken or fish. I have done a few meatless Mondays like @Mrs. Jacks: but my husband is not the biggest fan.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@keiki_mama: Similar. We try to buy organic grass-fed beef and free-range chickens. They are SO expensive, that's why we can only afford it for a few meals. When we didn't eat organic/free-range meat, it was much cheaper and we could have afforded it... but now knowing what I know - I just cannot revert without feeling an immense sense of guilt! Not just regarding animal humanity, but what we're putting in our body.

I'm a big fan of leftovers, so I may only cook a meal with meat once then have the leftovers for lunch and/or dinner the next day (or two). I really don't eat much meat though, and when I do it's usually mixed into something like ground turkey with pasta or chili. I try to eat more veggies and leafy greens.

We have a few meatless days a week- Meatless Mondays evolved into a more frequent occurrence.
pomegranate / 3983 posts
I don't really cook with meat at all, except for chicken soup once in a while. So we only eat it when we go out- I voted once a month. We do eat fish at least once a week though.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
No but we always have some kind of protein. So if not meat then fish, shrimp etc.
persimmon / 1081 posts
@Mrs. Pen: not only is it cheap, I think it's the tastiest cut! More flavorful than chicken breast. I love the skin, too.

Lately, yes. With GD I need to have protein for every meal and meat is just the easiest way to do that ( I don't like tofu, etc). Occasionally we'll have something like lasagna and I'll have a protein shake with it to stabilize the carbs
apricot / 307 posts
No, we probably go meatless with tofu or lentils/beans/veggies 2-3 times per week.
pomegranate / 3580 posts
We eat meat every night at home, with the exception of one dinner per night. My husband is a huge "meat and potatoes" guy and would freak out if we didnt! Personally, if it wasn't for him I would only eat it 2-3 times per week.

We eat a lot of fish and seafood; so if that counts as "meat" we eat meat with most dinners. I want to eat even less beef/pork/chicken than we do now; the older I get, the less I care for meat. I'm also totally disgusted by factory farming and won't eat animals treated that way just to save a buck; I'd rather buy better (humanly raised and slaughtered) quality and less quantity. At least with good quality meat; you need to eat less of it to get your nutrients and to feel full; which helps budget-wise as well. I would much rather eat a meal of veggies than a meat-based dinner generally.

We love meat, especially DH, so I can't think of a meal that hasn't consisted of some meat (except breakfast).
pomegranate / 3604 posts
pretty much. we're not above having "cheap" meat though like ground turkey or pork. As long as it's meat!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
We don't have meat every night. Meat is usually my least favorite part of the meal. I don't enjoy preparing it as much as I do the sides. I like the nights when I don't have to mess with it.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6703 posts
Yeah. We're carnivores. To keep the cost down, we try to shop sales and go to costco.

I voted once a month , because I buy a steak or turkey for my husband and LO/extended family and friends about that often (birds are for holidays), but I never eat meat. The expense is not my chief reason, but it's a nice bonus (one uncooked NY strip costs me nearly $20!!). I've been a partial vegetarian for most of my life, partly because I never really liked meat but also because I am very concerned with how animals are treated (this was all way before "Food, Inc." and the like). I do eat fish, but I'm really picky about where it comes from. I was kind of surprised on a number of levels to see the rise of paleo/primal diets a few years back!

I said a few times a week. I am just not a big meat eater (or a good cook, for that matter!). I also like when I don't have to mess with any raw meat. I am pregnant and have an aversion to chicken now, which I normally love, so that has been tough.
I did get a vegetarian cookbook for Christmas, so while I am not really a vegetarian, we have been eating lot of tofu/Morningstar meatless crumbles/legumes. It's been working great for me!

If DH is home we have meat. Even if sandwich and soup night, he makes chicken salad.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
It depends on DH schedule, if he is on 2nd shift then I usually eat grilled cheese, mac n cheese, waffles etc...basically easy things. If he is home for dinner I'll usually make a meat.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
We are big meat eaters. I have meat several times a day (e.g. sausage with breakfast, deli meat or leftovers for lunch, then meat with dinner).
eggplant / 11287 posts
We have meat with every meal. Either turkey or chicken or seafood, and then red meat maybe twice a month. No pork.
clementine / 961 posts
I am a vegetarian so I never eat meat but DH and our kids are not vegetarian's so they eat meat 3-4 times per week. I will not make it for them more then 4x a week because it's really not that healthy.
pomegranate / 3809 posts
I include meat or sometimes fish with every dinner, along with veggies and a side of rice. I always get chicken breast for 1.99/lb, thighs for 99c/lb, pork tenderloin at 2.49/lb, or a beef round for 2.99/lb for the slow cooker. Once in a while, I'll get a NY strip or tenderloin for a good steak dinner since those are more expensive.
coconut / 8475 posts
DH needs it everyday but sometimes I'll skip it & just eat the salad or soup..
coconut / 8472 posts
I don't even know how to plan a meal without meat or seafood, lol. DH would also not be a fan.
