I'm not trying to start any drama. This is actually something that I think about regularly and sometimes, it's what keeps me away.

I don't subscribe to the majority of "recommendations" made by Ob's/midwives or Pediatricians. I think that every child and family are different and that a parent should review their decision and challenge ideas of those in the medical field when necessary.

However, I often find that an overwhelming majority of people on HB follow all recommendations laid out by the AAP, except for co-sleeping and breast feeding. When it comes to those topics it seems as though every one tip toes around those recommendations as not to offend anyone.

For instance, if you mention you didn't VAX you will get 200 responses of people telling you that you are destroying herd immunity and they don't want their kids playing with your kids because you decided to skip the MMR. However, multiple people can say that they put their children in their own rooms, in a crib from day one, when all the stats say you are putting your baby at a higher risk of dying from SIDS, but most people will chime in with "you have to do what's best for your baby and you to sleep"

I guess I just don't get it. Everyone is perfectly peachy with taking a SIDS risk, but if another kid might get chicken pox they are shunned???

I know this is me comparing just a few simple things, but I'm really talking about lots of things, the bigger picture. I don't understand how in a community that's pretty big, how there are just a few of us outliers who challenge these "popular" ideas here.

Does anyone else every think this way?
