I brought LO to an indoor play space today, and felt so bad for one of the babies. She looked like she was maybe 10-11 months old, and her mom was trying to get her to practice walking by pushing a toy shopping cart. The baby just wasn't interested so she reached down to pick up a ball - her mom grabbed the ball and threw it into the shopping cart and took the baby's hands and put them on the cart handle. At this point the baby was crying, but the mom was scolding her and forcibly trying to move the baby's feet in a walking motion. They were causing such a scene, and my LO crawled over because she wanted to push the cart. I went over and told LO to wait her turn, and the mom said "No, go ahead." Then she turned to the baby and said "Hey dum dum, watch this girl and maybe you'll learn." So awful.

I always cringe when parents shut down their kids' creativity/questioning instinct/curiousity. I know everyone gets tired and snappy but... makes me sad to hear!

I hate to be judgey especially since I am not yet a parent but seeing parents treat their kids badly makes me so upset!!!

@betsyboop: I usually try not to judge but it ends at hitting or name calling. "Dum dum" is not appropriate to call an adult (except in certain relationships) much less a child, much less your own child.

:'( I HATE hearing this stuff. It's so sad.
Today at Chick-Fil-A, we saw a dad who was there with his 3 kids who all looked like they were under 6 years old. They kept asking him to come play with them but he stayed at his table and was like, "JUST GO PLAY or were going home!" So, the kids are like, ok...
And they come back to the table a few times to eat and then go back to play, and the dad sat there the whole time on his phone and never looked up at them or played with them. They kept hugging him and laughing with eachother, but the dad didn't interact with them AT ALL. Then when he was ready to go, he stood up and yelled, "LEEETT'S GOOOO! NOW!!!"
Ugh, basically, it was obvious that he didn't want to spend dinnertime with his kids
oh, and his feet were up on the table at chick-fil-a. Gross.. -
dang. i'm newish to paying attention to how people are parenting (still trying not to judge!) but i would probably freak out inside if i saw/heard that.

I was putting the kids in the car with DH yesterday and next to us was a lady who grabbed the wrist of her two year-old daughter and dragged her on the ground to the other side of their car. She wasn't even misbehaving (regardless it was not okay). My heart hurts for those children. Parents like that are so ignorant of child development. They have to be. Or else they are cold hearted people. Whichever, it makes me sick.
