One of Charlie's best friends at daycare saw me holding Olive and asked for a hug. He looked so sad that I gave him a side hug, and that's when he tried to kiss me on the neck. I said no and that was the end of the hug.

In general, I will hug a kid:

1) I know both the kid and the parents really well, and we're on friendly terms.
2) There is another adult present.
3) I'm comfortable with the situation.

It's pretty rare that all three criteria are present at daycare, so it's pretty rare that I ever hug one of Charlie's daycare friends. On a playdate, it's much less of a big deal because we only really have playdates with our good friends and everyone is right there in the room.

Do you ever hug your friend's kids?
