It was my birthday last week and my in laws gave "me" a walker for LO for my birthday.
Does this ever happen to you?

Wow. I can understand something that you use but is beneficial for baby. But something that's completely for baby??

Yes, someone gave me onesies for my birthday last year!

when I was pregnant I got baby gifts for Christmas from my SIL, super cute...but not actually for me. I'm pretty careful not to do that, mommy needs love too!

lol haven't yet, my birthday is next week, we will see! I wouldn't mind gifts that were for my LO if I really wanted them or asked for them. for example I really want a new baby carrier or a jogging stroller, would totally take those for my bday!

The only way that would be ok, is if it were a gift certificate for a maternity or newborn photoshoot. I'd be thrilled with that.
Or gifts that are indirectly for the LO but also for you, like a camera or video camera.
But a straight up gift for LO? No. Not cool.

No! That is not cool. My friends still get stuff for me!

I'm not sure how I would feel about that. On one hand I would feel like people have forgotten that I'm a person, but on the other hand, if it was something we really needed or wanted, I might just be glad to have it given to us...
But I have baby fever like crazy right now, so my opinion might be colored a little bit.

@mrsaudi: I DID ask for an Ergo. I got that from my hubby! But when my MIL asked what I wanted, I said I would love a gift certificate to Target so I could buy some new picture frames and candles. She got me a baby walker! LOL.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: YES!!! I was a little... um offended? Actually I thought it was funny. I just have to choose to not be offended by her anymore.
MIL did this too. She gave me tons of owl stuff for *my* birthday. Now what am *I* going to do with a stuffed owl

@Mrs. Superhero: that happened last year at Christmas, I was 30 weeks pregnant and did receive a few baby gifts. But I also received items for me. At that point I was so excited about baby I thought nothing of it!

For Christmas last year I asked for gifts off our shower registry, but that is what I wanted. We needed the gear and didn't want to spend a fortune on our own.
I do make an effort to give gifts that people ask for though, and if mama doesn't specifically ask for gifts for baby, then I would never get her that.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I want to ask for an Ergo for Christmas, but that's more for me than for her anyway! But, for my birthday, MIL got me a giftcard to TJ Maxx and told me I was forbidden to buy the baby anything with it! I think a walker is a little crazy to try to pass off as a gift for Mom!

I don't get gifts anymore for the most part, but I wouldn't mind something for LO since that saves me the trouble of buying it myself! =P

For christmas I don't care if my little guy is the only one that gets stuff. But for my birthday I want my own stuff NOT for him. I already spend everything on him. I don't get anything of my own.

I wouldn't care! I'm kind of picky about stuff for myself so I can see it just being easier to buy something cute for LO. Nobody really buys me presents anymore though!

Yes. My first Mother's Day I got a pack of onesies and a teddy bear from my in-laws. They, however, got my husband something for himself on Father's Day. Honestly, it irked me a bit!
