My in-laws call anything that comes on a television a show. So, if Forrest Gump was playing on TV, if they were talking about it they would refer to it as the show.

Or they will be like "Have you seen that show that just came out?" and be referring to a movie.

I have to use context clues to figure it out half the time! For me, a show is a television show, like a sitcom. A movie is a movie.
