I have a cold and my night cough is awful so my husband slept on the couch! I have too much junk on the guest bed right now!
Do you ever sleep apart? Couch or guest bed?

Not usually. The last time we slept apart was just before we conceived LO. DH had a horrible chest cold for over a month and was keeping me up coughing every night. He slept in the guest bed when it was particularly bad.
Ahh...I lie...after LO was born, there were times that one of us slept on the couch downstairs b/c LO wouldn't sleep anywhere but the newborn napper in the PnP.

Not intentionally. DH has fallen asleep on the couch watching tv after I've got to bed before.

Sometimes if I can't sleep. I'll go to the living room couch in the middle of the night and watch some YouTube videos so I don't disturb DH.

Well, DH works 24 hour shifts, so every few days! But when we're both at home, it's been maybe 2-3 times in 4 years that we've not been in the same bed.

I think we've only done this once or twice the night before a road trip. We always leave super early and DH takes the early shift driving. So he goes to bed early in the guest room so I can finish packing.
Oh, if we end up in a hotel room with two queens or doubles we sleep in separate beds because SPACE!

Only when she used to work nights. And by slept I guess I mean laid awake at night and worried about her.

Every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night. If he is snoring really bad, I kick him out and into the guest room.

@birdofafeather: Oh ya, every few weeks when DH has overnights!
@Fronkinzankinsbride: Law enforcement, right?

Not when we're home, but if we're in a hotel with two beds sometimes will each take one. By morning he's usually in my bed though. I married a snuggler.

Maybe once a month or so, one of us can't sleep and goes downstairs to sleep on the couch (for some reason we never choose the guest bed... haha). Usually if DH does it it's because it's too hot upstairs so he goes downstairs to cool down.

@autumnlove: Sorry you're sick
We'll sleep apart if his snoring is bothering me.

Never.
Even when I had H1N1 he just slept a little farther over on his side

We both love our bed too much to give it up. He will not sleep elsewhere. I will only sleep in another room (normally the couch) if I'm listening for lo, if she is sick or if I can't sleep and don't want to wake him up.

Almost every night LOL!! We joke that we should have twin beds like old people
I kick in my sleep and he snores and gets up in my bizniss. He likes it hot, I like it cold. We are NOT compatible for sleep but we both rest better when we don't sleep in the same bed hahaha! It's weird but whatevs

@autumnlove: Yep. Thankfully (for me) she works days now. She prefers nights. It's "more fun."

Yeah, DH will move to the couch if he's having trouble sleeping. Usually when he's stressed he will go watch TV or save me from his tossing and turning. Or...if I'm snoring

Sometimes - sleep is precious and needs to be protected! If one of us is sick, the sickie will sleep in the guestroom. If DH is snoring too much, I kick him into the guestroom. If one of us has an important work deadline/presentation/etc and need to make sure we sleep well; into the guestroom we go.

All the time, haha! Whenever Hubs or I are sick, we sleep separately so that our snoring/coughing/whatever doesn't keep the other awake! And I found that when I was pregnant last time around, my hearing was REALLY sensitive, so sometimes just Hubs BREATHING would drive me bonkers and I'd go sleep somewhere else!

When one of is really sick, we'll use the guest room. I had a terrible flu a couple of months ago that had me running to the bathroom a thousand times a night. I slept in the guest room to keep from contaminating him with my germs, and so that I wasn't waking him up all of the time.

We did for the first 2 months after Lettie was born. She couldn't sleep in the same room as me because she'd smell my milk and scream and we were too paranoid to have her by herself while she was sleeping in the rock and play (the only place she'd sleep!) so he slept on the futon in the living room & I was in the bedroom. It was really weird and kinda lonely--glad we're back to being together! But other than that we're pretty good at sleeping in the same bed, even when sick, though I'm a big cover hog.

Yup, DH works late a lot so he sleeps in the guest bedroom when he does.
pomelo / 5129 posts
Yes. too often.
If I'm sick I go to the guest bedroom so I don't keep him up. If he's sick, I go to the guest bedroom so he doesn't keep me up.
I always thought it was SO RUDE that my mom did the same thing, and so unfair. lol
I also escape if he's snoring super bad.
And he works odd hours so he'll often fall asleep on the couch when he gets home in the early morning. Drives me batty when he does that though.

I slept on the couch a couple of nights about 2 weeks a go because I was coughing ALL NIGHT. I would've made him leave, but our room is so close to M's room and I didn't want to wake her up! I think that's the only time in our entire time living together!
watermelon / 14467 posts
Sometimes one of us goes to the couch. Usually the one who is well.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
No, we suffer through each others colds.. I don't sleep well when we're apart so thus far we choose to stay together but this may change once we move into a house with a comfy guest bedroom..
pomelo / 5509 posts
@babyjmama: Same. We sleep apart probably 3 or 4 nights a week. I'm a really light sleeper and he thrashes and snores and makes crazy noises. I need my sleep so he'll sleep in the other room on nights that I'm particularly tired and cranky. It doesn't bother me at all.
blogger / kiwi / 588 posts
yup, sometimes when his back pain is really bad he will sleep on the floor of our room. i cant really sleep anywhere but our bed, so it's usually him that moves.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
We do when we're trying to sleep train DS. I sleep upstairs in the guest bedroom so I can tend to DS quicker, if necessary. Or if DS sleeps with me in the bed, DH sleeps elsewhere. They both toss and turn a lot and he's afraid of rolling over DS. Hopefully when we get a bigger bed, this won't be an issue.

Only a few times when the baby was having terrible sleep- I slept on the couch near her room so that I could get up quickly to put her back down (she was up like every 30-90 minutes). He is in residency and works very long hours in a hospital- we've decided as a family that we need to prioritize his sleep when we can!
bananas / 9118 posts
Occasionally if one of us is sick or if one of the boys won't sleep. C sleeps well with me, but he will end up kicking my husband in the head, so I'll take the guest bed if he won't sleep. I feel bad since he has to work very early, so if it isn't a work day for me the next day, I usually take one for the team and catch a nap later or sleep in when possible.
My husband is asthmatic, so when he gets sick, the recliner is usually the best place for him to sleep. During pregnancy, the couch was the most comfortable place for me to sleep.

Almost every night. He works late and snores really badly. He usually sleeps on the couch.
