We use it to store casserole dishes and baking sheets!
Do you ever use that warmer drawer under the oven?

I don't think I have one. My oven is built in and separate from the range.

@.twist.: Seriously, I was shocked recently when I saw a button on the oven called "Warming Drawer"! I had always thought the drawer was just for storage. Sad but true!

I keep all my cookie sheets in there! I have probably 10-15 of them and I would have no idea where else to put them!

@mrs. bird: haha! Mind blown.
@mrbee: OMG. Now I have to go look for a "warming drawer" button. wtf.

We use it as a warming drawer if we're cooking a big meal (e.g. Thanksgiving. Otherwise, we use it to store our cast iron pans and our largest Le Creuset pan/lid.

I store baking sheets under there, but it burns them?! haha! they're like, charred. I don't have a warming drawer option on top, so I never knew what the heck it was for.

@tequiero21: The broiler button is pretty awesome. I turned it on when I was roasting a chicken and it burned the crap out of the chicken skin.
I was bummed, but I had to admire how the flames came licking off the roof of the oven!

@mrbee: I don't have that button, maybe you have a fancier range than I do

@tequiero21: I don't know what a broiler does either, I've never used it haha!

@mrs. bird: I live in a rental, so it's just what came with the apartment!
I never used an oven before about a month ago, so I couldn't tell you how common the broil button is, sadly!

I don't have one. But I do have a smaller oven. I'm guessing the smaller oven is used for warming. But it functions the same as the regular oven. It's great for small dishes.

@mrbee: we have a broil option but it makes our oven SO smoky that the alarms go off! we resist using it but it's great for making things like garlic bread, browning casseroles and making chicken crispy!
ummm so I totally didn't know it was a warmer either. We store our pans there!
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@MrsTiz: It's a warming drawer!! You can set it (to a temperature maybe?) and then stick stuff in there to keep it warm.
I haven't actually used it before... I just saw the button on the oven and the realization that "OMG THAT'S NOT FOR BAKING SHEETS?!" exploded in my head!

@mrbee: Last month was the first time you used your oven??
So have you made frozen pizzas before?
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@MrsBrewer: I've never made frozen pizza before.
In general, I've mostly only ever cooked on the stove... the world of the oven is brand new to me.

Whattttt never knew it was a warmer drawer! We also just store our pots and pans in there.

Don't everyone get too excited. The drawer is a broiler on some ranges but not all.
If the drawer is deep and has sides it is just a drawer. If it has a slotted metal tray, gets warm while the oven is on and is relatively shallow it's a broiler.
You can also check by looking for the heating element.

@oliviaoblivia: Ah it's a broiler on some ovens? Didn't know that!
On our oven, the broiler is built into the oven and then the warmer drawer is just a separate thing under that. I've used the broiler, but never the warmer drawer...

lol ours does not have the warming drawer feature, it's really just a drawer! We store all our baking sheets in there
pineapple / 12793 posts
@mrbee: sounds like you've got yourself a fancy pants oven there Mr. Bee!

i had no idea that drawer was for anything other than storage! we keep extra baking pans in there, but the previous owners, geniuses that they were, used it to store dog food. so i won't be warming anything in there.

Aw. Mine is actually a second oven, and I use it all the time, either on "keep warm" or to cook side dishes if I need another temp. It would be sacrilege to just keep stuff in there. You should try using it to keep foods at optimal serving temp.-- I am almost certain you'll think it's great. We used it to keep our pancakes warm yesterday because I only do two at a time on our griddle. Most ovens the warming drawer isn't controllable, in which case I would probably just use for storage. To @Mrs. Pen: can you control the broiler temp? Sounds like yours just defaults to being too hot. Try dropping it down 50 degrees or so. Or you could just lower the rack so the food isn't so close if you can't set temperature.
