We can't go anywhere too far in the morning, unless DH and I both go, so I can sit in the back to keep her awake. Then after nap we have to make sure we aren't driving home too late cause then she won't go to sleep on time.
I feel like there is SO much we can't do because of nap times. She won't nap in the stroller, so we can't even be out all day.

Yes! I feel imprisoned by his naps. We took a boat ride the other day around 5:00 pm, and it was so stressful trying to keep him awake.

I feel MUCH more freedom now that A has dropped to 1 nap! Trying to squeeze in activities between naps was hell.

Not really now that she's getting older and more flexible. Also it's summer out and the weekends we don't want to be trapped in the house. Lots of times on the weekends she will have 2 short naps instead of 1 long one, if she falls asleep in car or stroller. But my LO falls asleep easily in car, stroller, and transfers pretty good, so it's a little easier.

Yep, definitely! We plan everything around nap time! And Xander's at that inconsistent phase where sometimes he takes two naps and sometimes only one, so it's hard to figure out what we can plan to do during the day!

Maybe we are homebodies....but we don't usually do big excursions. I use the naptime to do house stuff that *has* to get done. laundry, gym, DH mows the lawn...what do you feel like you're missing out on? If we do, say, the zoo, we go from 9-12 and then are usually done for the day.

not really...we still get out and do stuff in the morning before his nap and when he wakes up. I do sometimes feel rushed to get home in time for nap so he doesn't fall asleep in the stroller, but then I don't mind hanging out at home while he sleeps!

it depends. often i enjoy having those free hours in the afternoon. But sometimes, like last weekend, i wish i had more time out before having to rush home for nap. I can nap LO in the stroller, but then it means i get NO free time the whole day and he usually doesn't sleep as long which means cranky toddler later.

When LO naps, it doesn't matter where she's at. Yesterday she napped for 2 hours in her stroller while I was shopping. I actually think she naps better when we're not home.

@JoJoGirl: I feel more trapped! Maybe cause DH and I like going out to lunch and now we have to go so early and only close places so we can get home for nap.
@blackbird: Well like a couple weekends ago we had visitors and we couldn't go the aquarium cause they open at 10, and we would have to leave by 1130, so we can feed her lunch and be home at 1230 for nap.

Nope, but LO 2 can sleep ok on the go and LO 1 can skip naps. It was harder when they were younger!

@Smurfette: one thing i finally figured out last weekend was taking a lunch to go for LO, then i fed it to him in the stroller on the way home (we had a 45 minute commute on the subyway). he was ready for nap as soon as we got home and i didn't mind making an exception to be 30 minutes late for nap. so those things combined maximized our time out. And just being okay with only having 1.5-2 hours for an outing as it better than never doing those fun things.

Definitely! I love that he naps for 2-3 hours in the middle of the day (I need a break!), but it means that we can only stick close to home in the mornings. And by the time he wakes up at 1 or 2pm and then eats a snack, it often feels like the entire day has been wasted.

No. When LO transitioned to one nap she was magically able to transfer from car to bed while asleep. And she's pretty flexible so we can push naptime.

@Smurfette: what if it was something simple like a PB sandwich and you feed one bite at a time? that's how we did it in the stroller (still ended up being messy of course, but it was minmized)

not really. But M's still young enough to where he can nap anywhere. Me and D don't like waiting around for him to take his nap.
But, I do like using it as an excuse at times.

@Weagle: I would kill for that! If R falls asleep for 20 mins in the morning in the car, that is it for the day.

Yes. But I feel more bedtime trapped because I will move/fudge her nap time, but not her bedtime (by much more than a half an hour) if at all doable!

Not really. We sacrifice a decent amount of good naps to the dreaded car nap, but it's worth it for us to still be able to get out and do things. DD is happier out and about and usually does fine with a short car nap, so it works out for us.

Only when DH is home! If C is just with me, I know I can fudge the nap by getting in a wrap nap or a car nap, but DH *insists* on nap perfection - exact time, in his crib, white noise and fan on, blah blah. It makes no difference in night time sleep, so I will occasionally gamble and mess with it.

@grizz: ha that would drive me crazy! We've realized that DD's sleep isn't really affected by a good or bad nap day. It's crappy either way.

LO is still on 2 naps & I am kind of strict about them because she is such a pill when she's tired. We will do car naps but I will let her sleep in her car seat until she wakes up even if it means driving around for 2 hours. So if an activity means we'd have to cut her nap short we don't do it.
I am sitting in the car with her right now! She just woke up & pooped though
