I wouldn't know, honestly. J's name is unique enough I've never met someone else with his name... I wouldn't know how I would react! Names are pretty free reign IMO, but knowing the uniqueness I probably couldn't help but think someone got it from me if they used his name.

It hasn't happened to us (yet) but I can imagine feeling that way! Not in a HELL NO! way but just aw, bummer, and then move along! I wouldn't be mad or anything as I think people shou name their kids what they want barring some out there stuff.

We decided on the name months ago but have decided to keep it to ourselves until he's here. Now it seems like I hear of kiddo's with that name all the time! I don't get annoyed, exactly, but it's a sort of bummer that it's not as unique as I thought.

We might be on the flipside... there's a name that I've loved since being pregnant with C, and one of the people I used to work with at another company named her daughter it. If we have another girl, we might use it. It's not super uncommon (Evelyn), and I haven't seen the mom since I got my new job 4 years ago, but we do text once in awhile. LOL.

Hasn't happened to us yet! But if it happened, I wouldn't care. I would be flattered! I was preggo with one of my coworkers at the same time and she was sharing names she liked and one of them was LO's name (DH and I were NOT sharing names). I told her I liked the name and it made her final 2! She had her baby 2 weeks before me and she went with the other (not my LO's) name. Secretly I was relieved. But if she named her LO the name I named my LO I would be fine with it and probably would not have changed my mind.

If it was a good friend/family I would be annoyed.

Two of my college roommates (who don't talk to each other) named their 2nd sons the name that I wanted to use if we had a boy. I don't care though, and may still use it if we ever have a boy. It's not like we see them very often.

Our names are all super popular names so it comes with the territory!

I would kind of love someone to love her name enough to want to name their kid it... of course it really does depend on who that person is.

We specifically chose an uncommon name so when someone I went to high school with briefly who I share a name with named their baby the same as LO it was a little weird!! This person didn't know LO name so they didn't steal it but it was a freaky coincidence. It really annoyed me for a bit but it's not like it was done on purpose.

It wouldn't bother me, but only because we picked a super common name. We spell her name the classic way though, different from what they use here. What I don't like it when they pronounce it like the Swedish way. I cringe inside ... lol, but I was asking for it!

Eta: the Y sound is really harsh to foreign ears.

Not at all - they named baby 2 the same as our DS

@Mrs. Pen: My husband was dead set on naming any future DS Jacoby after the Red Sox player Jacoby Ellsbury - but he just signed with the Yankees and now he won't hear of it!

If one of my siblings used DS's name for their kid, then maybe! But we didn't pick a really obscure name so the possibility is there and I'm okay with it!

@raspberries: No joke, that was one of the most devastating things that happened to me last year.

DD has a recognizable, but not at all common name. If someone I knew wanted to use it because they loved it, I might be a little annoyed, but mostly I would be flattered. It's unique enough that whenever we come across another women with DD's name (they are usually 30-50 yo), I get super excited.
