We have the option of a free trial for the DVD rentals through Netflix, but everyone I know just has the streaming option. Does anyone get the DVD's/Blu-Rays? Do you like it? How long does it take to get the DVD? I know the trial is free so it's not a huge deal, but I don't want to get into something that's more of a pain than anything.

So that's how we started out with the 2 DVD rental, then we added streaming when it was available. Then when they upped the rates we got rid of the DVDs. But we have found that we are still renting at local video stores and getting hit with late charges some times. Some months we end up spending more than a monthly rate of 1 DVD rental at Netflix.
We're currently doing a 2 DVD Free Trial as well. I'm thinking we might keep it at 1 DVD after the free trial.Our nearest distribution center is 1 hr away so usually it's 1 day to get back to them then same day they send one out. So if I return a DVD on Monday usually by wednesday we'll have another one.

@regberadaisy: Oh that is nice and close! I didn't know the free trial was for 2 DVD's...it doesn't give me specifics on what it's for. We have a DVD rental store close to us but for 2 DVD's (due the next day by 10pm) it's over 5 dollars...so although we don't rent movies a ton, this would be a much better deal for us.

We do the DVDs only. When they made the switch to charge extra for streaming and DVD, we felt like there really wasn't that much we wanted to watch on instant so we opted for DVD only. I think it's very likely that that's changed and there are better instant options these days, but since we used hulu for free TV streaming anyway, we just wanted the movies. It's usually a 2 day wait-- like if I drop in the mail Monday morning, I have a new DVD when I get home on Weds. They always turn it around in one day on their end, but it takes a day to get to them and a day to get back to us.

I have both the DVDs and streaming and I feel like it is totally worth it, still the best deal around.

We only stream. It limits what's available, but we haven't ran out of things to watch yet so we're okay.

@Foodnerd81: Same here... We felt like we had already seen most of what was on the streaming so we do just the DVD's we have so much in our DVR that if we're looking for instant gratification we go there. other wise we get 2 discs at a time one off my list and one off my hubs list (He watches some pretty obscure movies i have no desire to see)

@Bao: oh it's for any of them so you can opt to do the free trial of 1 DVD, 2 DVd, etc.

We do both the DVD and streaming: DH gets the DVDs and I like to stream--works out for us because all he ends up getting is action shoot 'em up movies and I like to watch indie and rom-coms.

We just do streaming. Our public library has an AWESOME dvd section that rivals any video store, and the rentals are free! I like the streaming because I like to watch TV shows all at once. I have no patience, lol.

@Chillybear: How do you organize your queue by his and yours? We just keep going in and moving whatever one of us wants to the top, but sometimes we both do it and one person is very disappointed.

hubs and i have two sep lists on our account and i assigned 1 dvd to each list. I've had netflix since 2007 and we've had it set up like this since 2008 when we moved in together... but under your account on the right hand side 2nd box down it says
"your DVD plan" then last on the list is "Account profiles" then it list owner account and another account and how many dvds are assigned to each.... Disclaimer i just went in and it will no longer let me edit this without getting an error message - maybe if you call them - it will let me reassign dvd's but not add a profile -

We just do streaming, it's harder for me to find the time for movies because I tend to get home lateish so I can I watch one tv show episode and sometimes two, but normally I wouldnt have time to eat and wind down for bed if I watched a movie. Plus I just really enjoy watching tv shows in sequence without having to wait for a new episode!

When we had Netflix, we preferred the DVD option by mail. There was more of a selection than the streaming option.
