I've been looking for a piece of furniture to store my wedding china and other dishes in for the dining room and I'm not really sure what to get. China cabinets seem so.....old fashioned?... to me. Do people buy/use these anymore? I like the look of just a buffet or sideboard, but obviously the china cabinet offers more storage. What do you use?

I don't think people necessarily buy them anymore, but I wish I had space for a piece like that or a space for built-ins that I could use for similar purposes.

We have one, but it was part of a dining set that I inherited, we didn't actually buy it ourselves.

I have a simple buffet because I inherited it, but I do wish I had somewhere to display old china.

We do. It's just a small one and we keep our everyday dishes in it. I like being able to display them! I also like it freeing up space in my cabinets for less pretty things. I want to get another one for the China that we have.
Eta-it also keeps our dishes safer because DS can barely reach them. We would have to keep a buffet locked.

I have a buffet and a china cabinet. I got it at an antique store. It's more of a rustic piece and fits in the corner.

I think there are some great options out there, when we buying furniture, i wanted a new piece of furniture for the dining room..it had door cabinets on the bottom and the top was open, rather than with glass doors on top.

We have a buffet that matches our table and chairs. We recently took my in-laws' china cabinet that I eventually hope to paint, since the wood is much lighter than my dining set. Maybe I'll get around to that project next summer???
We never registered for china, but I display our nicer bar glasses and vases there. It acts more as a bar/storage unit.

We have a buffet. But I would love a china cabinet to store all my serving dishes. Our buffet is pretty much filled with booze and glasses.

I dont know, I guess thats what we have? Just a glass curio. It has an upper and lower with glass shelves and glass doors, and a small drawer in between.

Yes...and I finally put my china in there! I wanted one because I inherited my grandparents' wedding china from 1936 and wanted to display it. Luckily we have the perfect wall for a cabinet in our house. It has a light on the inside for the display which is a nice feature.

We used to have a buffet with a hutch with glass doors - it was awesome because it served as a buffet, but still had the extra storage on top that could be used to display china (we don't have any, but we kept our nicer dishes and glasses up there).

We have two, kind of - they're tall narrow cupboard things with glass doors that we got at IKEA. We have our wedding gift serving dishes and fancy glassware in them.

We use a sideboard. It holds all my China and my good stemware.

We do. I think you can find more modern looks. It doesn't have to be a matchy set like our grandparents had. I love being able to display my good china and crystal because I rarely actually use it!

I want a china cabinet so badly!!!!
I wanted china but didn't register for it. Then my husband's grandma and aunt bought us an entire set. I'd love to display it, along with some other pretty wine glasses and vases, just as soon as we have a home that offers room for a china cabinet!! I don't think they are old fashioned.

I kind of feel you on the sense that regular china cabinets can feel a bit old fashioned. We have really limited space so I had to research alternative options anyway, and I'm really happy with the solution we found.

Mines a built in. Before I had the Rojo cabinet from C&B I sold it to a friend and I love visiting it at his house.

We use a hutch and a buffet (both from IKEA). Our house didn't come with very many storage cabinets/closets so this is where all of our entertaining supplies live.

I don't care if they are old fashioned - I think they are a classic piece of furniture. We bought one off Craigslist - solid wood, beautiful, only cost $100 but worth so much more than that. It matches our dining set well.

I have a corner cabinet for china and glassware. I love that it doesn't take up a lot of space but I don't have to worry about my china bumping around in a drawer.

I have a matching china hutch and buffet cabinet I inherited from my grandma. They are a little old fashioned but they are a beautiful dark wood finish in impeccable shape and most importantly I have so many memories of eating dinner at her house with food served from the buffet and dishes stored in the china hutch.
