I don't have a formal dining table (waiting til we move to buy one!). The place mats do look too big with your runner though..

I think you could lose the runner..or the placemats. I like both but it's too much together. I'd suggest a colored cloth napkin folded in some fancy way and maybe a fake flower arrangement in the middle, or some color glass balls in that dish you have out? I looveee your china and flatware, it just needs some color!

I'd lose the runner and placemats since your table for 8 is close together. You could add a napkin atop the China.

Or lose two chairs...could you place elsewhere in the room? Then you could set the table for six and use the placemats or runner only.

I'd lose the place-mats & replace them with chargers slightly larger than the dinner plate. Do you have any colors in the living room/kitchen that you could bring in to the dining room with the chargers?

I would lose either the runner or placemats. Don't return them, but every couple weeks, switch it up and use one or the other.

I like the idea of just having 6 chairs out. It looks crowded. A napkin with a pop of color would look great too.
