I usually clean the house during naptime on the weekends and I don't do a great job. I would like to follow some type of schedule so I can deep clean one area daily.
Do you have a cleaning schedule?

We do, but I stink at following it.
Monday: kitchen/garbage/recycling (Tuesday is garbage day)
Tuesday: bathrooms
Wednesday: basement (this is our rec room)
Thursday: hallways/stairs/office
Friday: living room/dining room/touch up kitchen if needed
Saturday: laundry/touch up bathrooms if needed
Sunday: laundry/bedrooms
I think I need to redo mine, and instead of breaking it down by room, break it down by actual chore.... so have one day be vacuuming, since I am far less likely to bust out the vacuum 5 times a week. Interested in seeing how other people do it!

I don't. I tried it for awhile but it bothered me that my whole house was never clean at once! Now I have a morning once a week where DS goes and hangs out with my mom and I do all the cleaning at once!

Usually on Sat, but if I know I'll be busy then I split stuff up during the week - Kitchen, bathrooms, floors.

Our schedule:
1. Wait till the house is a total mess
2. Begrudgingly do a half-assed cleaning of the whole house
3. Repeat
Okay, that's sort of an exaggeration, but not too much. We usually clean on the weekends, but sometimes we slack. When baby gets here, we'll need to stick to more of a schedule, definitely.

@grizz: Hmmm I actually really like your cleaning schedule because it sounds like everything stays tidy all week long!

@autumnlove: The first week sucks, but once you get the hang of it its sooooo helpful!

@grizz: This is what I was talking about! It sounds like a great schedule, and much more user-friendly than mine. Thanks for posting!

@Running Elley: @PermaStudent: I really like it! We also keep a rule that we "zero out" the living room and kitchen every night before bed - as in, the living room and kitchen are both completely tidy. That way the maximum amount we have to tackle on the weekends is the nursery, our room, and our bathroom.

No. I really need to get one. The best we do at this point is to have our house tidy and picked up before going to bed every night which is very helpful but I need to get better on the deep cleaning front! There are some awesome ideas in this thread, though! I will try and incorporate them.

@lawbee11: He hired someone as a 'surprise' - she starts in 2 weeks. I'm not supposed to know but he forgot to close his FB I will act surprised!

@grizz: that's amazing! Best surprise ever. We hired a service and today was our first cleaning. The lady showed up at 8:30 and is still here! And our house was not super messy/dirty to begin with. Our house has seriously never been this clean and I am so glad we finally bit the bullet!

Every other Friday when the cleaning last come. Otherwise I vacuum or swiffer when it needs to be done. Daily clean kitchen counters.

I follow soemthing like this and adapted it to my own. http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/do-you-have-a-routine-for-household-chores-how-do-you-split-up-the-chores#post-1560865
Sadly, I haven't started it... ugh... 2 months later. I need to print it out and put in somewhere I will remind myself to do it.

@singingbee: they rotate every Friday - week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4. So you just do each swing chore once a month

@grizz: oh my. I'm so stupid. You wrote swing day. That's what I get for being tired. Thanks!!!!

I finally convinced my husband to get a cleaning service because I hate cleaning and now with 2 kids I really don't want to do it. I just have to find someone to do it. I'm leary about a stranger in our house when we're not here but I know it will make me so happy to have a clean house and my husband will not have to hear me nag anymore about how the house is a disaster.

Nope, I do the same as you. I wish I could do better. This is what I aspire to do:

For us, cleaning day is Saturday. I do all the laundry, dust, clean the bathroom, sweep, and mop floors. (DH helps, but is usually doing yard work/car maintenance most Saturdays)
Throughout the week we keep things tidy (pick up after ourselves, wipe down the kitchen/bathroom counters as needed).
clementine / 806 posts
I break it down by areas and days:
Monday - main bathroom
Tuesday - master bedroom
Wednesday - kitchen*
Thursday - master bathroom
Friday - living room
Saturday - dust, vacuum, steam mop
Sunday - nothing but run the dishwasher with hard toys to clean them.
* with Kitchen, every week it's something different but I always clean the counters and give all the appliances a good swipe. I do upper cabinets one week, lower cabinets the other week.
Laundry is done on a need basis.
some days are easier than others. Like bathrooms. I put toilet cleaner into the bowl, let it sit, spray down the tubs and sink and counters and let it sit. I clean the mirrors and organize the counters while I let the spray kinda do its' thing. Then I scrub the tub, toilet, toilet bowl, and then the counters and then the sink. I swiffer the floors and change out towels. I think start to finish it takes me 15 minutes? Once a month I wash our fabric shower liners, then hang them to dry.
The living room and master bedroom are the hardest because they cover more square footage and the bedroom involves my closet. My hubs' closet is usually pretty clean. Mine can get messy really fast. We have other bedrooms but they're rarely used so other than a tidy up and vacuum on Saturday, it's pretty unnecessary to do anything more.

I love seeing everyone's cleaning schedules. We currently don't have much of one, especially since our DS was born. I'm mostly commenting so I can easily refer back to this later!

our method is not the best....
basically, have people over around twice a week -- clean for a few hours before they come!

We host a Bible study on Friday nights at our house so we have this self-imposed cleaning schedule. What we've found is that small bursts of focused time/energy yields the best results. So we shoot for two 10-15 "ninja cleans" and one 1-hour sustained clean during the week.
We do a ninja clean on Wednesdays where we collect all the garbage and recycling (because garbage pick up is Thursday), break down boxes, and throw out things that have accumulated on our desks, nightstands, or dining table all week. This takes maybe 15 minutes??
Then on Thursday evenings, DH does dishes to clear the sink for me and helps pick up around the house while I prep food for the Bible study dinner (its potluck but we do the main entree every week). After the food is prepped (some easy crockpot meal usually), I wipe down the kitchen appliances, and counters. This takes maybe an hour total, and mostly for the food prep part. If we have the energy, DH will also vacuum the house while I clean the guest bath, refresh the towels, and polish our dining room table. This takes an extra 15 minutes probably.
Fridays right after I come home from work we do any other spot cleaning we may have missed (i.e. the guest bath and vacuuming we didn't get to the night before). Again, 10-15 minutes tops.
Rooms that DON'T get cleaned regularly are DH's office and our master bedroom, since we just close the doors. So those can get pretty hoarded and messy. But I can live with that. We generally only REALLY organize/clean those spaces (or make the bed) if my parents are visiting.

This has worked wonders for us in the past. However now it just hangs on the fridge and makes it look like we have it all together. Haha

DH asked why I blurred out our names he said, "what are they gonna do? Track us down and kill us?"
I said "maybe."
He said "Hellobee is out of control"
