I put a dutch oven on my wish list. Still need to look around to find the best deal.
Do you have one? What size do you have? Have any recipes you want to share?

Yes! We found a Staub at Sur La Table last year at 40% off (its one of the oval big ones). It's awesome and cooks so well in the oven or on the stove. We make meats in it, but also desserts and meals like mac n cheese. So worth it if you cook a lot for more than a few people (or get a smaller one for a smaller family).

@mrbee: @lawbee11: @MrsBrewer: I don't get the joke...
I have this one:
The 3 quart one. I tend to make casseroles in it the most, or mac-and-cheese. LOVE it.

@Adira: a Dutch oven is when you fart in bed and pull the covers over your victim's head... Also known as a covered wagon.
I have one from Costco and I've made 50 clove chicken and Julia Child's beouf borgennion (can't spell).

@mrbee: haha! It did sound weird as I was writing it out!
I thought about adding pot or cookware to the title but ended up not doing it.
DH said the same thing when I told him I wanted one.

I've been wanting one for so long! I hoped we'd get one as a wedding gift, didn't happen. Had one on my Christmas wish list, didn't happen. So I found one at home goods for like $40 and bought it for myself It's ~6qts, Chantal, green enamel. I've only used it once so far. Baked beans. I'm sure I'll use it a ton though.

@HabesBabe: @lawbee11: LOL - thanks for the explanation ladies! I feel so informed now!

@bluestriped bee: you should have seen me trying to think of another word for it when I was asking the clerk at home goods where the dutch ovens were! He was a young guy, it was sooooo funny!

@bluestriped bee: I just remembered my Home Goods had some for $60 this weekend. I think they were Calphalon.

Yes, my dad got me a cheaper Better Homes and Gardens 6 qt one for Christmas a few years back. I love it! We're technically not supposed to use it on our glass-top stove, but I do all the time. Whatever.

I have three from Le Creuset, a 5.5 quart, 9 quart and a 5 quart braiser. They get more use than anything else in our kitchen. You can find them at TJ Maxx every so often. I'm tempted to buy more because I love them so much, not because we need them.
As for recipes I use them to make just about everything but my favorite is the NYTimes no-knead bread recipe. Perfect loaves every time. I also use Jamie Oliver's roast chicken recipe a lot. Oh and baked oatmeal in the winter.

I have a Le Creuset I got for our wedding and i LURVE it.
i use it quite often, especially in the winter.

I have debated about getting one, but I can put our Calphalon pots in the oven, so I usually end up just using my 5-qt saucepan when a recipe calls for dutch oven usage. If I had the space in the kitchen to store it, I'd go for it, but I don't so the Calphalon works for now.

Thank God I'm not the only one who giggled in my head. Sometimes I think I'm trapped in the 5th grade.
I have a Le Creuset one but I received it as a gift for my birthday this year and I haven't done much cooking while I've been preggs so I haven't tried it yet!

I have a few and I use them all the time for virtually everything. I do a lot of meat dishes in them, but they are truly versatile.

We have 2 – a Le Creuset one and a larger cast iron one. I prefer the cast iron one because we can use that on the stove top as well.
My favorite thing to make is a pork loin with roasted onion and fennel. We also make soups and stews in the dutch ovens.

I have 2 Le Creusets and after about 5 years of use I recently noticed that the enamel on the inside bottom seems to have worn away a little, maybe from browning things. Not chipping, just wearing away, so food tends to stick. I still love them!

I have a Le Creuset that we got for a wedding present over a year ago and I STILL haven't used it. For shame!

My aunt bought me Le Creuset years ago, and I recently started using it this past year.

I have one and use it all the time! I wanted a Le Creuset but it wasn't in the budget so I bought a Mario Batali one when there was a decent sale going on at Sur La Table.

I have one and I don't use it that much. It's so heavy! My favorite thing to make in it is this:

It is soooooo delicious.

I have a 4.7L (i think??) oval Le Creuset dutch oven that we got at the outlet store in California. $170 was an AMAZING deal considering they cost about $300-$500 at the Canadian William Sonomas.
I use it pretty frequently, so i think it was one of my better purchases. I use it for braising, stews, and soups.

I have a Calphalon one, but I'm not too sure what to do with it other than cook meatballs, lol.

yes @adira, i have the 6 qt and 3 qt lodge dutch ovens, i bought from amazon about 2 months ago, though it boggles me that the 3 qt is more expensive than the 6 qt, but still overall a very good price for what seems like a comparable brand to le creuset. i have been using it often, braising, making casseroles, stew. one pot spaghetti, yum!!

Yes, I would cook exclusively in Le Creuset dutch ovens if I could. They are so useful.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@kakimochi: I actually got mine as a wedding gift (or maybe at my bridal shower, I forget), so I wasn't aware of the cost till I just checked it on Amazon, but I agree! Why is the 3 qt more expensive??? Maybe because it's more popular? I find it to be the perfect size for most of my stuff!

I bought a Lodge enameled cast iron dutch oven from Amazon and I love it. I use it to make soups, roasts, and braising meat. It's easy to clean and in the interior gets stained I think you just boil baking soda in it and it magically disappears.

@spaniellove: LeCreuset cast irons have a lifetime warranty, so you should check with their customer service!
I have two LeCreusets and love them! In the winter especially I use them all the time for soups, roasts, casseroles, etc. Nothing sticks and everything cooks evenly.

Is it bad that all I thought of was DH's fart-bombs when I read the title of this?!
Want a LeCreuset for Xmas this year!

2 Le Creusets...I use the round one for EVERYTHING, from pasta to chicken to soup and chili. i made a recipe this weekend that called for a crockpot, but i put it in the dutch oven instead, in the oven on 200.
Could not live without it!

I have a La Creuset and use it for everything! Bought it at the outlet and managed to negotiate it down to $75. I would have paid full price.
Here's a fun recipe that is easy and delicious and an interesting use of it:
