DH got me a Dutch oven for Mother’s Day which I’m so excited about but I have no recipes for! Does anyone have anything they make regularly? Bonus points if it involves short ribs!

Not short ribs but tasty tender beef - smells amazing and great leftover and frozen.
Also start making Dutch oven bread! Would be amazing together.

The no knead bread was the first thing that came to mind. And I use mine for this recipe too. You don't have to use a dutch oven but it holds in the heat so well and it's big enough b/c this makes a lot. But it's so good!!!

@bhbee: @Mommy Finger: these all look great, I’m going to have to try this bread. Thank you!

This is more of a winter recipe, but I make this in my dutch oven at least once a week when the weather is cool, usually on a Sunday since it takes a while, it's SO DELICIOUS:

I've also had this one saved for a while but keep forgetting about it - my cousin makes it regularly and shared the recipe, sounds SO GOOD:

@hellobeeboston: You reminded me of another pork ragu I've made that is amazing.
Also, this one with beef short ribs: http://alittlezaftig.com/?p=2642

Does anyone have a Dutch oven and braiser can weigh in on which would be "better" to have?

@PurplePumps: Dutch oven for sure. It’s more versatile (like with the bread recipe above) and the high sides make it great for soups and stews.

@bhbee: Thanks! I think I'm convinced. Do you think a 3.5qt is too small though? (this is my workplace reward... my options are a 3.5qt dutch oven, or 3.5qt braiser)

@PurplePumps: probably depends on what you’re using it for. 3.5 seems pretty small. Mine is 7 and I think it’s a great size, 5.5 would have been ok too.

@PurplePumps: ooh that’s a tougher choice. I have what I think is the 2.75qt oval that I bought myself before later getting the 5.5qt round on my wedding registry. I very rarely use the oval as it’s just not big enough for a lot of things and I don’t really make any side dishes in it (probably should!). The 5.5 is an ideal size for my purposes, I can put a pot roast in there or make soup which would both be hard in the 2.75. But 3.5 is a little bigger obviously. You might sometimes have to adjust a recipe, but I could still see making it work.
For me the question would be, what would I use the braiser for and what other pans do I have that are similar size/purpose? And same for the Dutch oven.

@PurplePumps: I would say that a 3.5 qt dutch oven is way too small so I would go for the braiser if those are your only two choices. I have both and use them for different purposes. The braiser I use like I would a normal pan of that size but like that it has a the heavy lid (mine is glass so great to see through it). I like it for making one pot rice/noodle dishes. And since it's cast iron, it gets really hot and I can get a good sear on meat. I use it to make chicken breasts in a lemon cream sauce or really any good sauce.
I think this is the one I had. Found a super great sale. https://www.surlatable.com/staub-35qt-braiser-with-domed-glass-lid/PRO-3895943.html
