We don't have one. I really don't want one at this point...I would like one in our forever home.

We have one in the basement (?!) but not in the living room. We'll add a gas one down the road.

We have a gas one in the living room and a nice, legit/classy looking electric one in our bedroom. I voted "I love it" but that's not really true. It's lovely to use sometimes on the weekends when we're snowbound and we can all cozy up in front of it but other than that it's just meh. It also leaks some, which is just the nature of having a vented system to the outdoors, and I naturally loathe anything that raises my already skyhigh winter heating bills!

We have two (wood burning) that we have never used. We need to get them inspected before using them and we've been too lazy to get someone to do it.

We have one and never use it. Then again Southen CA isn't exactly known for fireplace weather.

We have a gas one in our living room and a real wood burning one in our dining room, of all places. We've lived here a year and have never used the wood burning one, but have used the gas one a few times. They're alright -- it wasn't like they were the draw to this house for us at all or anything.

We have two but both are non-functional. Our house was built in the 1860s by a polygamist (we live in Utah) with two wives. Each wife got an identical parlor to receive guests. Now one is the living room and the other is the dining room. I would love it if they worked!!

We don'r have one but when we renovate the basement we'll add a gas one which will also be used for heat.

Yes! One thing I really wanted when house hunting. We added gas logs and I love it!

We have one & I love snuggling up in front of it in the winter with a hot beverage & watching a movie.

We have one in our living room. I love the sounds and smells of a wood-burning fireplace when it's chilly outside. So cozy! It also came in really handy when our power was out during a snowstorm.

Yup and I couldn't fathom not having one, definitely a must have for us. And we prefer wood burning over gas. Gotta have the real thing

I voted love it. I don't love it in the practical sense because I think we've used it twice in the 2 years that we've lived here. But I think fireplaces make great focal points in rooms.

We have a gas fireplace in our living room and in the basement. I love them both and use them all the time in the colder months. When we first moved into our home, they were both unusable wood burning FPs so I'm so glad we changed to gas.

We have one at our weekend house. It's wood burning, and we love it! Definitely nice on cold afternoons/nights.

I need an other! We have 2, but we drywalled over one and have a (removable) entertainment center in front of the other. We never used them before doing this stuff anyway.

We don't have a fireplace, but we did install a pellet stove this pat winter...and we love it! Not quite as cozy as a fireplace, though. That's definitely on my list for the "forever" home.

Yes, we love having one! It was immensely helpful during our horrible winter!

no, And I want one! Our last townhouse had one and it was amazing!

Yes, I think most houses in our area have one! Love the smell of the burning wood.

We do, I voted "love it" because it's something we really wanted, however we haven't USED it yet. We moved in right before winter but didn't have anyone come out to clean the flu/inspect it and that's non negotiable before we use it! We also are considering putting in gas logs, it already has a gas starter. We'd just prefer to have the glass front so J can't get to it. I can't wait to use it next year!

We have a gas one in the living room and I voted love it, but really I am ambivalent. I like the idea of them, but we've used it less than 10 times in the 5 years we've been here.
Our fireplace is remote controlled and the only switch is hidden behind the bottom panel. The previous owners did not leave the remote control though and a replacement will cost us $125. So PSA - don't forget to leave the remote control when you move!

We have 4, but I really wish they were outfitted gas, because I can't really justify burning wood and creating that much pollution. My favorite is the one upstairs. So cozy!

We have a wood burning one in our main living room and love it! But we also live up north.
We much prefer a wood burning fireplace over a gas fireplace. I think after this past season we are keeping the natural wood.

Yes, love the look, but we never use it other than filling it with candles. I'd love to have it converted to gas though. It's pretty cool to have one in our house since they are now illegal to have in new build houses in our area.

We have a gas one and although I voted love it, I just tolerate it. It doesn't have a mantle and doesn't throw heat out like a wood burning stove does, we can't change anything since we're renting this house.

How about "yes, neutral". We used it occasionally before we had a LO, but now it seems like too much of a pain / mess / safety hazard. I used to hate the gas ones but now I can see the appeal.

We have 2 in out current apartment but we are moving to a new one that had just one. I love it in the winter, but this past winter was so mild we barely used it.

We have 2. They are real wood burning fireplaces. To be honest, I'd rather not have them because it's such a temptation for him to want to light it. I don't want them lit when we have a baby around and also a forgetful husband who leaves things lit or stoves on all the freaking time.
pomegranate / 3113 posts
We have one on each level of the house. We've never used the one in the basement family room because we don't spend much time there (it's not a very cozy room and will need a fair amount of work before LO gets too much older). We've used the one on the main level a handful of times, but purely for ambiance because it gives off almost no heat. We're stuck with wood-burning because there's no gas line on our street, but at some point I want to install an insert so we could actually use wood as a backup heat source if the power goes out, instead of just having the fireplace for show.

We have one and its enclosed. We probably won't use it.
We had a real one in our apt and used it a few times when DH's asthma wasn't flaring up. Unfortunately, towards the end, we stopped using it because of DH's health.
The gas and enclosed fireplace should be fine for us, if we want to use it.

A fireplace was one of my top requirements for a house, I love it, but we don't use it as much as I thought we would.
