My MIL wants to give us her piano and I'm not sure if we want it yet!
I played the piano as a kid but I haven't touched one in years!

My parents have one and I would LOVE to have one, but I don't know where we'd keep it! What kind does your MIL have? Will she give it to me?

I have a Fisher Price toy piano and recently purchased a vintage Schoenhut from the 40's (LO especially loves this one). My piano teaching friend gave us an old keyboard. LO gets to play on a real piano at my in-law's house.

Yes! When I moved away from home my mom made me take it with me. It needs to be repaired in a BAD way, but I love having it. I can't wait to teach DD how to play

My hubs is classically trained (as in can play Rachmaninoff, Bach, Mozart, Brahms no problem). He was also a piano tuner for a few years. Went to school for it and got a certificate right out of HS. We don't currently have one in the house but he has two. One is in his parent's garage awaiting some day when he can repair it. The other one is sittig next to his parent's staircase. He also has a harpsichord he lent to his aunt and her family.
Will we eventually have one? Definitely. But right now we don't have a good place for one (aaaaand I'm grateful for that. My toddler can et a bit older before I introduce that particular toy.)

I played for 10 years but quit junior year of high school. I definitely want my kids to take piano lessons so we'll get one eventually! But it makes me sad to look at pianos and know that I quit!

Yes, we have a baby grand. It's not the greatest looking thing in the world, but it is tuned!

@Adira: It is old and it hasn't been tuned since the 80s!

We had an upright piano in our house but recently sold it to make more room for toys!

We don't have one, but I wouldn't mind getting one.

We have an old Western piano that used to be in the Burt Reynolds museum. DH plays it all the time.

We don't, but I want to get one when we move to a bigger home. My parents have an old baby grand, but I would settle for an upright.

Nope, but growing up we had an upright piano from the 20s. My parents never kept it tuned and just used it as an extra place to put holiday decorations I think they just liked being able to say we owned a piano lol.

We have a baby grand. It takes up a lot of space, but DH is a professional musician so once we bought our house and had room for one, a piano was non-negotiable. I can't wait until the first time LO starts banging away and sends it out of tune, DH's reaction will be priceless.

Bumping this up because I have a piano decorating question.
We have a baby grand, it's not beautiful, in fact, if I could do it all over again, I would have just asked the previous owners of our house to remove it. But, it's in my living room. It's honey colored oak and I don't know what to do with it, really. I feel like I should decorate it somehow, but I am at a loss. I don't want to keep it open because i don't want it to get dusty inside.
I'll try to post a photo tonight when I get home. Any ideas what I can do to integrate it more into the living space?

@looch: Paint it! Does the the honey oak match the rest of the room? I think it would be awesome to paint it a fun color, but black would be great and make it look more traditional.
Not sure how I would decorate it except with a vase of flowers.
You could also stencil a monogram on the lid if that is your taste.

@TemperanceBrennan: I so want to paint it, but my husband would have a heart attack...not because it's an heirloom piece or anything, but because he just gets uptight about my projects! I know I could use Annie Sloan's chalk paint, in a gray, and it would look fabulous.
For now, I have to keep it as it is. My husband agreed to a rug underneath the piano, so that at least is progress. I just need him to go on a business trip so I can paint it, lol.

@looch: are you wanting to play the piano? I'm just thinking that any alterations to the finish might upset the tone and sound of the piano...

@Kemma: My husband plays the piano, but I am considering starting lessons for both me and my 3 year old at some point.
It is not worth much, otherwise, the owners would not have just left it when they sold us the house. I've read a little about refinishing, but I can't really move it easily out of the house, hence my idea to paint it. But for now, it will just stay as is.
