I am thinking of buying a used piano for our home, but i'm not sure if it's worth buying now. Our house is really small, and it's not like i could play on it when LO is napping/sleeping. But i'm really itching to buy one and share my love of music with LO!

We do, but it needs to be tuned. And definitely get something used because kids are hard on pianos!

My parents got it as a hand-me-down from a close friend (do pianos count as hand-me-downs? Haha), and then when I got married and moved out they made me take it with me. So, it's super old and beat up, but full of character

@swurlygurl: I was supposed to get my childhood piano when i moved out, but it will cost over a thousand dollars to ship it to where i am now. It's worth it for the value of the piano, but i'm not willing to shell out that much right now!!

Yes, a baby grand. My hubby is a musician and insisted on having one once we had the space -- fortunately, I was able to talk him out of a concert grand, haha. Oh, and we got it used, someone had posted it on Craigslist and it was a decent price and he liked the sound. I think a brand-new one would have been more than we felt like spending.

@Freckles: ironically, M's room is right above the piano, so not exactly as accessible as you might think 
(though she is a great sleeper and it usually isn't the end of the world if someone is playing nicely-- not banging).

Yes! We have DH's grandmother's piano! Unfortunately, most of the keys are all down and it needs to be tuned. Neither of us play, but it didn't seem right to let his parents give it away. It's currently in our living room and we hope to get it repaired soon!

My mom was just asking me recently if I was going to buy a piano for my house, the answer is no. I don't think we have a good spot for it in our house.

Yes! It needs to be tuned, but we still play it daily! It was a must for us.

We don't but I want one! We were thinking to take DH's parents piano... but it wouldn't fit well anywhere downstairs and it wouldn't really work out well to move it upstairs. I think we will probably look into getting a weighted keyboard. I really want LO to take lessons like I did as a child.

Yep - MIL gave us their family piano, which I thought was sweet gesture until she openly told us that she was just trying to make more space in her house. LOL! Regardless, I'm glad we have it!

@dojo: I looked into weighted keyboards as well, but the really nice ones are pretty pricey. I think my friend spent about $2k on his.

We do, but I haven't touched it in quite a while. I need to though so I can play it with DS in the future! Not sure I can even read sheet music that has notes WAY off the bar.... Yikes!

I have a weighted keyboard, which is just not the same thing. I wish I had a piano--it really makes a house a home to me. I got a keyboard though b/c I knew I was still moving a lot, and I couldn't handle the price of having a special mover and a tuner.

We have one. It was my mother's when she was a little girl and my sisters and I all learned to play on it when we were young. I didn't retain much and only play occasionally, but it's nice to have and I hope our LO will use it one day.

I have one, but it's at my parents' house. We're waiting on us to be in a permanent home before we bring it to us, because it's such a pain to move. I can't wait to get it, though, and teach DS how to play.

Not enough room for a piano in our current apartment, but maybe someday! I don't know how to play but DH does. I'm sure our kids will take some kind of music lessons. We do have a violin, guitar, and banjo.
