We don't have a dedicated playroom. It's just the living room or dining room with baby gear all over.

We converted half our garage into a playroom. We have a small living room so it was a must for us.
persimmon / 1345 posts
Yes. We have an extra bedroom on the first floor that's traditionally the guest room. It's awesome to have a place to put all her stuff in on the first floor.
honeydew / 7917 posts
Yes. It's supposed to be the family room, but we switched up our spaces a bit and use the living room as a family room. The play room gets a lot of use, and I wonder how we did it before without one.
pear / 1586 posts
Yes. We converted our office into a playroom - the desk is still in there but we use it primarily as a playroom. (But, we still have a basketball goal, soccer goal, t-ball set and a bunch of books in our living room.)

Nope, didn't want one and don't miss it. They have 85% of their toys down in the family room and most arts & crafts in one area of the living room.

We do now that we moved and it's nice having it. Our family room and living room can be toy free when everything is cleaned up. Nice having a place for the toys to land at the end of the day.
grapefruit / 4321 posts
Yep! We turned what was supposed to be the formal living room into the playroom. We have a huge great room and bonus room, so there was no need for a formal living room. Plus, we aren't that fancy
pomegranate / 3595 posts
We have a playroom/guest room and it has been great. Most of the first floor is open floor plan--kitchen/dining/living room and it has been really nice to leave the mess in the playroom (behind the wall) then eat dinner without distraction and then go back and play!
cantaloupe / 6687 posts
Yup- instead of a formal dining room and formal living room we have a playroom
persimmon / 1281 posts
We made our basement guest room into our playroom. We have a fold out couch that can be used for guests but its nice to have a space to go and play thats fully carpeted (living room is hardwood, and also very small) & away from our face licking dogs!

Yes, it's meant to be an office/den and works so well. I fell in love with the house because of it.
grapefruit / 4584 posts
No. We live in a really old brownstone house, so it's not broken up into many rooms, just a few really big ones. I wish there was a door we could shut to hide the toy clutter, but after 1.5 years, we've figured out how to arrange the family/living room to break it up a bit. Now from the sitting area where the TV is, I don't have to see anything kid-related.

Our dining room is the playroom! We have an eat-in kitchen and saw no need for a formal dining room.

We turned our formal living room into a playroom with some tidy toy storage spilling into the formal dining room. The only negative is that its the first room you see when you enter the house but we have young kids and don't really entertain much anyway.

Yes, and I love it so much! It's at the back of our house and all of the kids' stuff stays in there so the rest of the house is tidy and clutter free 🤗
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
Ugh we have 3. We need to consolidate stuff. Or I guess move the kids into their rooms.
clementine / 856 posts
Yes, but right now it's used as a storage/junk room. LO isn't old enough to be able/want to play by himself, so right now his "play room" is our entire family room. I try to keep it contained to one side, but it's a useless battle. I am really hoping that when he's older, I can actually use the play room as an actual play room.

We have a finished basement and one room is a playroom. His toys seem to be evenly divided between there and our living room.
pomegranate / 3863 posts
Yup! We have 2 extra bedrooms so we turned one into a play room.
persimmon / 1467 posts
No. At this age I doubt he would play in it anyway. He'll play by himself but only when he can still see me. We just keep a small number of toys in our living room.
pear / 1837 posts
No, but our house is small. We are hoping to move in a few months and would love a dedicated play space- especially if there is a way to keep dogs out of it.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Umm no I figure the kids will want to play wherever the parents are so that will likely be the family room. In the house we are leaving I planned to create more play space in their bedrooms. In the new house there is a keeping room off the breakfast area that may double as a play area on the bottom floor, but I still think many toys will be stored and played with in the family room.
Growing up I didn't have a play room and I survived. LOL

Condo living, so definitely not. We pretty much have 3 rooms, two beds and a living room kitchen combo. You guys talking about a family room AND a living PLUS playroom? Whoa.
squash / 13208 posts
yes - we turned the formal living room into one - we didn't have furniture for it and we aren't formal people so it made sense
grapefruit / 4823 posts
Yes. We have a loft area upstairs that is used as their play room. Although some toys have migrated to downstairs
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
We can if we want to, but it would be in the basement so we decided it's just easier to have it as part of the living room while she's young. We've changed the configuration a few times as she grows.
pear / 1809 posts
Yes, we turned our dining room into a playroom. It's a nice space right at the front of the house, and I like that it gives me somewhere to keep all the toys.
eggplant / 11861 posts
Not really we were going to make the spare but then LO #2 is on the way
pomegranate / 3872 posts
Yep. It's great to have a space to contain the mess. I try to clean the playroom a few times a week but it's a lifesaver when someone is coming over and I can throw the toys in there and close the door. Lo loves having a place to play by herself for a bit during the day.
pomegranate / 3438 posts
Nope. We have a tiny 850 sq ft duplex. Our living room is the play room. I've gotten pretty creative with toy storage!
coconut / 8854 posts
Nope, we just have everything in the living room, and put it all away at the end of the night!
pomelo / 5084 posts
No. Right now we are going with the master plan of keeping a rotating set of toys in the living room stored in the pack and play.
pear / 1986 posts
We have a family room/play room where I try to keep all the toys and a separate living room on the main floor. I have visions of opening up the family room to the kitchen and dining room, but sometimes it is nice not to see toys all the time.
coconut / 8472 posts
Yes, we have a room called the "sunroom" that's connected to our living room. It's not really what I would define as a sunroom, but that's what the previous owners called it. It's nice to have a big space for DS to play and be messy with his toys. We have a big couch in there, a train table, a bunch of toys and stuff like a ball pit that rotates in and out.
We have some toys that end up all over the downstairs too. His shopping car, his little tikes car, stuff like that. It's nice to have a dedicated place to put them back.
As evidenced by the picture, there are reasons why we don't keep the ball pit out all the time . But even without it, there's usually toys all over anyways, lol.
pomelo / 5326 posts
We don't have a playroom. However we have a living room and family/tv room. We converted a big chunk of our family room to a "play area". We put down alphabet mats and keep all her toys located to one end of the room.
