We don't but I'm dying to get LO in the water I think he would love it and have so much fun. I'm sure we will get a kiddie pool but am trying to talk DH into an above the ground pool. He says no way - blah ! It's a million degrees here in the summer - I just want something to float around in !

we do! well, we rent the other side of my ILs duplex, and they have an above-ground. my parents (5 min away) have an in-ground, so I consider that my pool too! lol!

My mom has a neighborhood pool, so we'll hang out over there some this summer, but we're totally getting one of these bad boys this weekend (you better believe me and Dan will be in there with Sadie):

PS: Why'd T say no?! If we weren't renting, I'd get an above ground pool in a heartbeat. With 100% humidity here, it's hard to be outside in the summer unless you're in a pool!

@photojane: exactly ! He is so particular about our yard he said it will kill the grass but I don't care about that! Girlfriend is trying to get her float on ! I just want one of those big inflatable ones we can take down each year !

We do and it's a PITA!!!! We just upgraded to a saltwater pump system to lower the maintenance but it still has to be cleaned all the time and mice and stuff are ALWAYS getting in it!!!
We are renting this house out and moving into a house we're building and we were both like "NO POOL FOR THE NEW HOUSE!!!" I think it's better to find a community pool and let someone else take care of it, lol!

I hate our pool. It's awesome when it's maintained but OMG...I hate cleaning it and pouring in all the chemicals and we pay A LOT of money to open/close it and for the little automatic vacuum that drives around the edges of the pool and cleans the inside of it.
AND I am so scared of it as a safety hazard for my son. DH and I are thinking about filling it and laying brick-tile over it and just making a nice area where we can go outdoor lighting a grilling and seating....and kids can play in that area with chalk or whatever.We did a super tiny inflatable for LO though and he loved it :

@TurtleDoves: I saw where they came out with an alarm you put in the pool and if anything weighing more than like 18lbs gets in the pool, it goes off. Obvs you turn it off when in the pool or whatevs. It was like $200 and if we were staying in this house I'd definitely be buying one!

@PrincessBaby: omgosh yes! I'll look into this. That sounds incredible. DH and I call the pool the "death trap" because it's 5ft and our LO loves to look at himself in it and I am so terrified that one day when he's older he will just walk outside and jump in.
Eta: I blew that pool up at the air station at the gas station (for tires) and DH laughed at me. He's like "uh, you couldn't blow that up on your own? It's like the smallest pool in the world.." -
We bought a mushroom inflatable pool for LO last summer, and I think that's enough pool action for him. The neighborhood pool is only a few houses down the street, and it wouldn't make any sense to build a pool in the backyard. Plus I keep hearing about how maintenance is a pain.

We run a motel that has a pool and it is such a pain. I'm hoping to one day live near a lake or something and we can just swim in that!

We didn't want a pool, even though it's very hard to find a house with no pool in Florida. I don't want to maintain it or worry about lo falling in. We have a big backyard though so if we want one when the kids are older we can put one in.

We just bought a tiny kiddie pool today. It's HOT! It really feels like spring was completely skipped this year.

I might get a kiddie pool for the backyard but we joined the community pool, which is less than a mile away. I like it that way better, LO has lots of kids to play with and we don't have to worry about maintenance or LO and her daredevil ways trying to break into it.

I wan a pool so badly! But it's only really warm enough for 2, maybe 3 months. DH thinks a hot tub would be smarter in our Canadian climate lol

We have a pool, DH maintains it. It does make me nervous about safety for LO. Living in Texas we get about 5 months use out of it without having a heater at all. We were wading and splashing just a few nights ago.

we have a kiddie pool but I need to blow it up! I would be SO nervous about a pool - not necessarily for LO's safety but for liability issues. Can't wait to get in the little pool though!

We have one accessible to us, but we don't have to maintain it. I really dislike how my skin feels after swimming in a chlorinated pool, so unless we were to go for a saltwater pool, I likely wouldn't even use it that much. I agree with other commenters--pools are time and money pits. I'd rather just go swim in the ocean. At least there are fish to see there. (Rather than the dead lizard I saw at the bottom of our neighbor's pool the other day. That's unavoidable, but...yuck!)

The house we just bought has an above ground pool - we just took the cover and everything off today! Its fenced in perfectly, and I'm super excited to float this summer!

We have plenty of room for a pool, but DH doesn't want to get one because of maintenance and he wants to have space in the backyard for our kids to run around, play soccer, etc. We have a neighborhood pool less than a mile away, so it works out well!

We do! It kinda just came with the house.
We have 3/4 acre so even with a pool there is still plenty of room for playsets, treehouses etc. The pool takes up maybe a 1/3 of the backyard?We're in the process of opening the pool and closed it last year ourselves.
@PrincessBaby: I'm surprised to hear you say that given where you live!
BTW would you mind sharing how much it cost to change it to a salt water pool? We're planning to do that in the next few years.

We have a pool, and while maintenance hasn't been too bad, it takes up our entire backyard! I rather have a yard. If you don't care for your pool or wait too long to get it started for the next season, getting it cleaned up can be a PIA!

@PrincessBaby: we had a salt water pump system until it stopped working. At some point we will go back since it doesn't bother or eyes as much. We have caught a raccoon and many birds dining out of our pool.

We have a pool in our building now, but when we move we won't. I think for NEXT summer when LO is 1, I may sign up for a pool membership--there a couple of gyms/aquatic centers with pools that you can buy a membership just for the pool.
It's pricey around here, but might be nice since I don't work summers.

We have a pool and just did a major overhaul on it. Last night was the first time we were able to swim after the remodel. Yay!

We just bought a house with a pool, and we haven't even used it yet, and it is already a money-sucker...not to mention the time to maintain it.
I love it in theory, but I don't know how much we will spend to upgrade it over the next few years. I am still undecided if it will be a good ROI.

I will be buying a kiddie pool for LO this summer! I would love an inground pool but they are hard to come by in our neighborhood! It is part of my dream house though

We used to, and it was a PITA! I loved the idea in theory... In real life? Not so much. It cost a fortune to maintain and icky things always got in the traps, like mice and snakes.

my parents have a beautiful pool that my dad treats and maintains its a lot of work but he's got a system down. We're there almost every weekend, my lab mix loves it the best!. its cholrine, no heater

Our new place (4 more weeks till closing!) will have a pool, filtered via ozone system and not by chemicals. I can't wait to use it.
