We always have alcohol for get togethers. My FIL is going to provide it for LO's first birthday party.

Definitely...one big Irish/German family. I think my family might boycott if we did an alcohol free party.

I'm counting down the minutes until LOs party starts and I can crack a beer open.

Nope, I'm the only drinker in my immediate family - I avoid the topic with them bc we have very different views on alcohol.

We do, but we made a deal that if anyone ever overdid it at one of our parties we wouldn't serve alcohol in the future. So far, so good.

party I am throwing - yes! larger family party like a shower - probably not.

Yes. I love the excuse to make sangria (summer) or mulled wine (winter)!

Nope. They're CRAZY about not drinking while driving here! They don't think it's responsible to drink at all if you plan to drive that day. As in no beer 8 hours before?! It's madness!

Not always - it depends. We can't at large family gatherings due to substance abuse issues. For things like Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc where it's usually just my family, we do. But more low-key events like birthday parties, usually not.

@runnerd: haha same with ILs! We don't tell them that we drink alcohol (at all). We didn't have alcohol at our wedding because many people would have flipped a lid (saved us an expense so I was ok with it!).

@Mrs. Pen: yep! We didn't have alcohol at our wedding bc the ones drinking would have been cousins and friends, and everyone else would have been judging! Instead we went out for late night drinks with a group of friends after the reception

Oh. So I totally skimmed the post page and thought this post was DO YOU HAVE ALCOHOL IN YOUR PANTIES?
I think it's time to open a bottle of wine.

@babycanuck: ha!
We usually do, but due to the location of DD's 1st birthday, we couldn't. Didn't miss it but did go out for drinks with my girlfriends after.

We don't. We aren't drinkers and most of our friends aren't big drinkers anyways
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
Yup! We aren't huge drinkers (I hardly ever drink) but most of my family/friends enjoy a beer or two.
bananas / 9118 posts
Yes, as the guys mentioned who were installing our new fridge today, "you guys really like your beer and wine." Indeed, we do!
coconut / 8279 posts
Nope. Some people are really irresponsible..
If it's adults only, yes. But if people are traveling to/from with kids, no.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
With our friends and my family, definitely. With DH's family, no. He thinks it's disrespectful to his family members who are in recovery, so we won't be having any at LO's first bday. I'm bummed but I'll respect his decision... and drink when everyone leaves.

Always! Not sure my family would come if there wasn't beer!
persimmon / 1177 posts
Yes! Usually BYO for liquor, but we (or whoever hosts) generally has some wine/beer too.
At our last big family Christmas, one of the uncles brought a margarita machine
That might have to be a new family tradition!
pomegranate / 3779 posts
We don't drink a whole lot, but I love to try out new drinks so I'll make things like blood orange margaritas or a fun punch and we will usually have beer.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
Wow, even kids' parties? I grew up in a non-drinking family so even holidays, alcohol is not the norm. If I had a party for adults I would have beer & wine but I don't think we ever would for LO's parties.
