I didn't have one growing up, so it feels weird to me to have to punch in a code in my own home. But I'm not opposed to getting one...
Do you have an alarm system? Did you have one growing up?

We don't but sometimes I wish we did. My husband went away this past weekend and it was the first time he had been away since M was born. I slept poorly both nights he was gone. I wonder if I would have slept better if we had an alarm system?

We don't and I never have. We've always had a noisy dog. If someone were brave enough to try to walk past the barking though we would be in trouble because once you're in the house the dog doesn't care.

Yep, i've never lived in a house that didn't have one. We rented an apartment for a year and had one installed because the unit didn't have one.

Nope! Growing up we didn't even lock our doors. Now we live on the top floor on an apartment building with a buzzer intercom system to get in. Upper units are less likely to be broken into, I don't worry much about it, I do worry about our cars getting broken into.

Yep! Since I am home most week nights by myself with R, I wanted one for piece of mind. It was already installed when we bought the house.

No. We have Nala-- does that count? She's noisy (but SO not fierce, none of our dogs are). We don't lock up-- well, Mr. T does at night, but if it were just me I don't think I would. And we only lock up during the day if we will be gone overnight. Once we went on a fairly long trip (about a week) and forgot to lock up entirely. There has been some drug dealing/meth making closer to home as of late, so I keep thinking we ought to not be so complacent, but old habits die hard. And, overall, it is a very safe area.

We do, but turned it off because we couldn't figure out how to arm/ disarm and stop it from beeping. If we ever hook it up again and have it monitored we will be really secure according to ADT. They came out to assess our system and were a bit disappointed the only product to sell us in good faith was monitoring.

I never had one growing up and don't have one now. We've been thinking about one since getting broken into last year, but just haven't really decided on anything yet.

Never had one growing up.
Don't have one now, but we plan on having one installed in our new house.

Yes, we have an alarm system at our house. We always had one growing up, too. It's just an extra measure to feel safe. We don't set it all the time but we definitely wanted it because it dispatches the fire department if the smoke alarm sounds. We also always set it when we travel or around the holidays when there are more likely to be break-ins. I also like the panic button feature.

My parents had one growing up (they had a break-in when I was young). But DH and I live in a rental and don't have one. We will consider it when we buy a house.

Nope, we have a dog, she jumps to alert when she hears the neighbors shut their car doors...so she's always alert. Maybe when we move out to the country if DH is still traveling for work, but I never had one growing up (small town.)

We have one in our new house. Never had one before. I like the peace of mind, especially when DH is away. But I've set it off twice by myself and nearly had a heart attack. That sound is NO JOKE. Once was after LO was asleep and I still can't believe it, but he didn't even stir,

Didn't have one growing up but we do have one in our house, definatly gives us peace of mind.

Yes and yes. It's because I grew up with one that made me get one when I bought a house. Plus you get a discount on your home insurance if you have one.

No never had one. We have a 100lb dog that will alarm us and keep any strangers out.

No, but we will likely get one soon. We just haven't gotten around to it yet, but I've noticed an uptick of car prowl and burglary reports in our neighborhood lately so I think it's time. DH said he wonders if alarm companies pay people to go out into neighborhoods and act suspicious to drum up business...I laughed but kinda wonder if he has a point.

We have one now but we didn't growing up.
DH and I used to live in an apartment that came with an alarm system. Moving into our home (which was bigger and a big more secluded, which I wasn't used to) made us want to get an alarm system. DH grew up with one in his parents house so he is used to it.
It gives me great peace of mind when I'm home alone or at night. We also have a dog which is an alarm system itself!

No. We live in a high rise building with a doorman and security cameras so it seems pointless.

No...but we have 2 large dogs that have loud barks!
We didn't have one growing up, but my parents do now.

We had a break in last week and just got one installed. Definitely gives some peace of mind! Also ADT is pretty high tech and has some cool features!!

Yes we have one and use it every day. I have been burglarized before (in a different city) and my next door neighbor was burglarized last year (and she actually has an alarm system, they broke the glass patio door which did not have sensors on it).
