Do you have any friends who talk about their hobbies constantly, to the point of being annoying?

Facebook stuff doesn't bother me mainly because I don't see it In real life, while I admire Crossfit, it's the only thing people talk about when they get into it.

I don't think I've ever talked too much about knitting or sewing. Unless anyone wants to hear about the half finished quilt I have in my basement?

Although I'm sure I post too much policy wonk stuff for my more conservative friends!

21 day fix and how it changed their life posts multiple timea a day eith smiling selfies. Urgh the worst.

I've unfriended anyone trying to sell me crap and unfollowed all the religious fanatics, even worse, old aunts and uncles ranting about politics whenever it's time to vote! Argh. The thing that gets to me? #cleaneating when they tag a salad with cold cuts in it!

Funny, no one has mentioned Posting millions of baby pictures yet! It drives me nuts! I love my friends kids but seeing 20 + pics a day? Um, no. Emails those directly to grandma! Occasional pics are welcomed but some ladies go overboard!

If I don't like it, I unfollow them.

In general though- it doesn't matter if I find it annoying because if they're truly my friend- then I want to know what's going on in their lives! That's why it bothers me when people complain about moms who post too much about their kids, their hobbies, etc- because why are you friends with them if you don't care about their lives.
This is essentially what Facebook and Instagram are for, right?

The only thing I cannot stand is self promotion with all the jamberry, body by vi, advocare, etc. but I can unfollow, and in some cases I've politely requested they stop inviting me to their events.

Yes! Someone who posts constantly about Shakeology and the 21 Day Fix (is that what it's called?) and she's always posting her meals (1 red, 2 greens...whatever the codes are for healthy eating).

Meanwhile.....I'm pissed off because I ate the last of my hot Cheetos while watching Greys last night.....

I unfriend those who post offensive things regarding other religions, people who are too political, and the dude who posted pics of aborted children (AWFUL).

I post a ton of pics of H on IG, but whatever.

I was thinking about it, and I think the hashtags are more annoying than the FB posts ABOUT Crossfit or BFing or whatever. Like, I can handle a "I love Paleo" post but for some reason my irritation kicks up a notch when its accompanied by "#cleaneating #eatclean #paleo #nom #fitness" or a BFing selfie with "#ebf #normalizebreastfeeding" or whatever. Like, is my eating "dirty" because I enjoy cookies and ice cream in addition to everything else I eat? Is breastfeeding really that "abnormal" that we need to "normalize" it? I don't care if you breastfeed, but I don't necessarily want to see your breasts ALL OVER FB, Twitter, and Instagram.

Well, I guess I'm glad that all of my friends are into our fancy bikes. Wow, that's a lot of vitrol.

I have a friend who always talks about his hobby of flying model airplanes. All. The. Time. I know all about the parts he orders from China, and how his daily lunchbreak flight went and any recent crashes. Somehow every topic segues onto it and I'm not sure how....

Not IRL but I am so over seeing pics of shakes, mascara and lip stains on FB. Always to promote a work from home business, always 20 odd posts a day.

  20. Synchronicity

    grapefruit / 4089 posts

@gingerbebe: you're right, the hashtags usually bother me more than the picture. If someone posts a gym selfie, fine, whatever, but hashtagging #fitgirl #fitlife #gymlife #crossfit #crossfitter #crossfit4lyfe #pretty #blueeyes #blessed...... SIGH.

  21. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@Mrs. Microscope: My SIL posts a lot of pictures of her kid, but she does them all at once so FB groups them. So it's only one actual post. If she spread them out it would drive me nuts.

@Mrs. Jacks: Funnily, in my experience with my friends/family, it's the exact opposite. My atheist friends rarely post anything that would clue you in that they're atheist (other than maybe just the fact that things are clearly overall very liberal), but my religious friends/family post about it ALL the time.

@Torchwood: just a funny joke I read (holds true in our group of friends, but I get that it's completely different in your case)... Just a funny joke I saw on FB.

  23. gingerbebe

    cantaloupe / 6131 posts

@Mrs. Jacks: I personally find your joke to ring true for me! I'm Christian and personally I get way more "Christians are religious nut bags" or "Christians need to join the 21st century" posts on FB more than the other way around. I also had a vegan ranch dressing recipe and grand opening of a new vegan restaurant posted to my feed in the last 24 hours, in addition to a post about why gluten is why Americans are fat.

  24. Chuckles

    persimmon / 1495 posts

I think the only thing that really drives me crazy on facebook are the "friends" trying to sell something. (Rodan and Fields is the worst!) Has anyone seen the Usborne books people yet? It's a new thing around here.
The smaller thing that I find annoying on facebook is when people upload a zillion photos from one event without editing anything out. (like, Maggie posted 96 photos in "Our trip to the farm.") Really, I'd love to see pictures of you and your kids, that's really why I look at facebook, but how about just the 10 best photos? I don't need to see 96 photos from one afternoon.

  25. Mrs. Pen

    blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts

@Chuckles: Usborne books have been around forever! I remember my mom buying them when I was a kid.

  26. Chuckles

    persimmon / 1495 posts

@Mrs. Pen: Right, I know that they are really popular, I just had never seen the direct sales thing before with them. I feel weird not buying anything since of course I love getting books for my kid, but it's more on the principle that I don't like people I hardly know trying to sell me things.

  27. Mrs. Oatmeal

    blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts

The only thing I outright notice (and block) are people who post videos and photos that are totally meant to disgust/terrify/offend. One person was always posting videos of popping/bursting pimples and cysts...WHY?! Or posting the most gory details of current news stories (child abuse, etc)- if I wanted the details, I would go looking!
But really, I post a lot about baking and my kid, so I'm sure I annoy people too.

  28. jedeve

    pomegranate / 3643 posts

@Mrs. Oatmeal: someone I know posted a picture of someone holding a beheaded head. I saw it in the middle of the night while nursing. I couldn't sleep! I reported it to FB but they didn't take it down.

  29. Freckles

    honeydew / 7444 posts

Ummm sorry guys but paleo dieting and following a religion aren't hobbies. It's funny how people love to find any way to start hating on certain interests.

@sarac: I love fancy bikes and anything bike related so no bad feelings from me. I used to post a ton about running but I just stopped posting on FB altogether because I felt self conscious about inundating their FB feeds with my crap!
