I don't have dual citizenship. When I became a US Citizen I had to relinquish my Chinese citizenship.

I do with US & Ireland! I haven't done anything with it, unfortunately, but my maternal grandmother was from Ireland, so my dad and uncle hunted down some paperwork and filed through her… then all of us cousins did the same. This was before they changed some rules for it, I think. Fun though!

I currently do no and do not plan to get it either. If we do move abroad again, I will give up my US citizenship.

Yes. I am an American citizen & a naturalized Hong Kong permanent resident forever! I actually have a 3rd active passport too....

@Mrs. J: That's awesome, my husband is Swiss and you can never be "unswiss." My son is dual.

I was about 6 months short of the residency requirement for the Swiss passport.

@looch: how cool! What part is your DH's family from?

DH always daydreams that we'd move to Switzerland and he'd work remotely haha. Maybe one day I'll have the time/money to dedicate to getting it!

Speaking of which, we have to register DS at the consulate.

@looch: No, his grandfather was. They're from Neuchâtel, but live in Geneva now.

haha I wish my German were better--I chose to study Spanish in school/studied abroad in Spain. I'm sure my grandmother wishes my German were better too!

I have family in Germany and Austria, and I've always thought about doing Rosetta Stone or something like that.

I don't, but I will be eligible for French citizenship in two more years, and I will take it! My two LOs are dual US/French.

@pui: you should totally do it! A European passport is such a great thing to have!

@looch: do you have to give up US citizenship to become Swiss? Or would it be by choice?

@looch: gotcha. Those things are a big pain in the rear for us too. If I knew we were staying out of the US forever, I would consider giving up the US citizenship.

I don't yet but I do have permanent residency in Australia, which would allow me a passport in the next year or so. We're moving to the UK in a couple of months though as our long term/permanent move so I will probably get UK citizenship at some point.

My girls and DH are dual Australian and British citizens, and of course the girls are entitled to US citizenship being born to an American mum.

C has a British birth certificate from being born here, but isn't eligible for US/UK dual citizenship since we're both American. Boo! It would have been cool for her.
