I'm terrible. We have a really nice knife set and I am sure I use them all wrong! My husband tries to sharpen them, and I honestly don't think he really knows how... is there a trick? Anyway, it's kind of funny.

not at all! I'm terrified of really using knives...I'll use them for bare minimum!

I've gotten better with practice. I've also picked up some skills watching the food network

@sweetooth: ditto on watching Food Network! But I'm not very fast... I'm klutzy so it's better I go slow

Not at all. I'm super slow because I'm terrified of losing a finger!

I definitely do not have skill, but I have gotten better. The best thing the Food Network (or Top Chef) taught me, was how to hold the knife and how to hold the food so you don't cut off your fingers!

We have a bunch of just okay knives that I am comfortable so I can do fairly well with those. We have one really really nice knife that we got for the wedding though, and I'm not very good with it yet.. need practice I guess.

I'm pretty slow. My husband says the way I handle knives makes him nervous. He hovers over me if he is home while I chop. I've only cut myself one time.

Knife skills are like sports or any other skill...you can only be as good as how much time you put into it.

Yup, i like to think my knife skills are pretty good but it's definitely because i cook everyday. I even took a professional knife skills course at a local college a few years ago to improve my technique. I know, i'm such a nerd!
@autumnlove: @mrbee: does that guy do ALL infomercials? isn't he also the sham-wow guy?

No, I wish!! @caffeinated: a professional knife skills course? Cool!

@MungBean: It was a 4 week course on the weekends and we went through veggies, fruits, breaking down poultry and fish, etc. Oops, i should have re-read my message before posting...I don't know why i wrote professional! It's through the culinary arts program...i loved how technical it was!

Nope even though my dad used to be a chef and tells me how to hold the knife and item all the time to properly cut it up. I'm too chicken and the position holding is uncomfortable. Slow and steady for me or I'll ask the hubby to do it. Ha!

Kinda of? Maybe just because I really enjoy cutting up stuff! Except meat....cooked or raw...yuck. Give me fruits and veggies to mince, chop, or slice up....and I'm in heaven!!
