Yep, we went to the clerk's office sometime soon after he was born (maybe a month later?). It was really fast, but I don't remember how much it cost.

Yep. We have two copies. Got the forms from the hospital and they mailed them to us.

@Smurfette: I kept forgetting to get a money order too, but I found out you can just go to the office for Vital Records and pay with a debit card. It was a super easy process.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: You're in PA too, right? Ours was just mailed to us, we didn't have to pay for it (or if we did it was lumped in with hospital costs) or do anything, it was automatically done.

Yup we have 2 copies at home. They look totally unofficial looking though.

Yep, my mother's club had a play date outside the recorders office in the early days.

We just got hers a few weeks ago. The hospital ordered it then we went to the county clerks office and paid $10 for it. There was no set time to get it though we could've waited years I just wanted to get it to have it.

We don't have J2's. Perhaps I shall pick it up when I get J3's It's crazy how different it is depending upon where you are. Ours are $20 and you have to go to city hall to get them

Yes we had to get it pretty soon after DS's birth, maybe within 30 days? Can't remember but I know we took a few weeks after he was born to send away for it and we cut it fine time wise! We got the normal copy and a decorative NZ copy.

Yes, we needed them to get passports. My daughter has 3 different birth certificates! One in German, an international one in multiple languages, and the one issued from the US consulate!

@jodyblair: really? I will have to check, since I am pretty sure we are in different counties.
pomegranate / 3863 posts
No, but we are flying next week so I need to go get it! We can order ours but have to send a money order so I think I will just go down to city hall and get one from the town clerks office.

Yep the hospital had us fill out forms for her birth certificate, provincial health card and social insurance number. Still waiting on her SIN!
grapefruit / 4819 posts
Yup, we have to register the birth within 60 days of our baby's arrival so I just ordered the birth certificates then. Good thing too as I was just asked for DD2's birth certificate when flying the other day! We've got three copies of each baby's birth certificate.

He's 2 today, and I have literally never even thought about it since leaving the hospital. So, nope, we don't have one.

@lovehoneybee: I am! My husband handled the birth certificate and SS card. He will know if we have the birth certificate.

@Smurfette: Carter was born in a different county than we live in. I just went to our county's vital records office. I may be wrong, but I think as long as you live in the state of GA, you can just go to your county's office n

@jodyblair: yeah but then I have to go downtown and pay for parking. Probably would be easier to just get the money order, I just have to remember!
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
Oh yeah. I had to go downtown to get copies of it since we were flying pretty early in her life. You know, we had to have proof that our 2 month old wasn't 2 years old so she could be in our laps.

We got one from the country where he was born and then we had to apply for the US born abroad one.
@lamariniere: tell me more about the international one...we don't have that version!
pineapple / 12566 posts
@looch: Each line has about six languages stating what the field is. The US consulate requested the international one instead of a translation.
