Do you have nest? would you recommend it. we are thinking of getting the whole package in terms of outdoor and indoor security as well as the thermostat control. My question is do we need special wiring for in place for this especially for the outdoor camera.
If you have something other than Nest and are happy with it ? and if so please recommend. We would love something that doubles as monitors for the kids too and can sync to our phones.

We have Phoenix home security. One of the nice features is the phone app. We can view the cameras when the motion detectors are set off- system is armed and outdoor doors and windows are opened. We can also lock/ unlock the door and change the thermostats while away.
So far I have been happy with it. I use the armed security feature a lot when DH travels. I love that I don't have to get out of bed to turn it on.

We don't have Nest but we do have a lot of home automation stuff by Insteon. We thermostats, lights controls, and a water sensor. IDK how Nest works, but everything for Insteon is all wifi or electricity based. So the camera would just need to plug in and have a wifi connection.

@agold: a friend of mine has it and it can do SO much more than my motorola baby monitor.

@Mrsbells: no, we only have the cameras on the inside. I am sure Phoenix does that too though. A coworker of mine has that door bell camera that is advertised on TV. He uses to head people off from ringing the door bell and making his dogs bark.
