We have vinyl venetian blinds. I'd like to upgrade at some point to some nicer ones.

We have wooden blinds and roller shades in our room. LO has faux wood blinds and blackout curtains.

We have wood blinds throughout our house... they work much better for blocking out light in DD's north-facing room than our south-facing master.

We have faux wood blinds. I plan on hanging curtains, but I want to get new bedding first.

I'm going to get some woven shades like this:

We have some temporary white paper blinds and our bedroom gets soooo much light that I need something that blocks out light better.

we have blinds and the ugliest black out curtains ever. my husband works overnight shifts regularly, and has trouble sleeping during the day. I seriously cannot wait until he's done with overnights- we used to have pretty, thin linen curtains. I love waking up to daylight, and light thin curtains blowing in the breeze....peaceful

We are classy.......still have the paper "blinds" up from when we moved in. In our defense the one window has blinds like the rest of the house. But we have 5 french doors, which are all custom orders, so $$$$. So we might just get roller shades. Then we have curtains, had to buy 6 panels!

We have honeycomb light filtering shades pretty much all over our house! I like the minimal/clean look and was too lazy to to figure out curtains lol.

@Smurfette: We still have the classy paper blinds up in our master too! They're covered by blackout drapes, so I guess that helps. We totally forgot about our master bedroom when we ordered blinds for the rest of the house.... 3 years ago.

@grizz: We always keep our curtains closed too for that reason. I hate it, I want them open! We need to just bite the bullet and order something.

@Smurfette: we have the paper blinds from when we moved in too! no shame!

We have blinds IN our window, between the panes of glass. I can't even tell you how much I love them - ZERO cleaning required!

Just curtains, we don't get a lot of sun in our room so we didn't need anything more than that.

@Silva: I love linen curtains! And waking up to daylight. That's what we have except in lo's room, her curtain is blackout lined

@swurlygurl: i have never heard of that before - very cool!
@snowjewelz: I am looking at getting those for our living room instead of curtains. Do they go across all of the window panels or do you have one shade per panel? Also, where did you get them?

@Freckles: I'm pretty sure this is what I got -

I had a really good experience w/ the website. They explained how to measure your windows to make sure you order the correct ones. I ordered a 94" wide panel for the living room! So It's literally one shade for like 3 panels. I got all of them cordless, and two of them of pulling top-down or bottom-up. I did that for our living room & den so that we can put from top down, get some sun light but still have privacy.
I ordered them on 5/13 and they came 5/20 from China, even though the est ship date wasn't till 5/24!

We have shutters in all of our bedrooms right now. I like how clean they look.

We have dual cell cellular shades with blackout lining and top-down/bottom-up opening option. Our window faces southeast so it's really bright in the morning. I was able to sleep in a bit more with the blackout option and it also has thermal properties to regulate temperature. The top-down opening option doesn't get used much now but I like being able to have shades open but still have privacy since we live on second floor of a busy intersection.

Really ugly black out curtain. LO sleeps in our room and they're essential. Behind those are rollar blinds.

Blackout shades. And they are AMAZING! We didn't realize that the house we bought already had them. It was a very welcome surprise.

The only room that has anything is LO room. And it's ghetto. Haha I thumbtacks the curtains up for now.
We want to do faux wood blinds with sheers. But window treatment is sooo expensive!!
@futuremama: where did you get yours from?

I made my own blackout curtains. A huge must, because it is still broad daylight well past 10 PM.

We have bamboo roman shades and sheers. The shades aren't lined or very dark so I'm planning to add black out material to the back of them.

@littleveesmommy: We have the same! They are a great extra layer of insulation, especially for keeping the heat out in summer. Our area is pretty dense so I use the top-down all the time for the side of our bedroom that faces our neighbor. We also have patterned decorative curtains.

We have wide-slat white wooden blinds with a cute curtain over it (I sewed blackout lining to the back). Maximum room darkening and insulation!
persimmon / 1472 posts
@Sparkler: the extra layer of insulation is what sold us (plus the extra shut eye with blackout). It's so hot during the day with the sun beating on the windows so it helps keep the bedrooms cool. I'm trying to convince the hubs to add a curtain or something to jazz it up but he's all utilitarian thinking "but we already have something covering the window?" Lol
