I can't think of the correct term for these types of people but we had a new furnace installed today and I had a lot of floor cleaning to do. They tracked in through the back door, down the stairs and through the basement (also used the bathroom) and left snow/mud/salt ALL over. It wasn't the end of the world to clean it up but I just thought they would at least halfway wipe it up. I'm guessing it is pretty normal to have to clean up after services like this?

I think that's pretty rude. When I've had service people come in, they usually slip on those boot covers (especially if they're going where there's carpet)

Rude! The ConEd guy never takes off his boots when he checks our meters and it makes me so mad I've vowed to start making him put bags over his feet.

@MaryM: There isn't carpet it's all tile and the stairs are wood. I mopped it up on my hands and knees with a rag but once it dried the salt is still showing through so I'll have to go re-do it probably more than once. They also came through the kitchen and dining room to the living room to do stuff with the thermostat. Didn't make as much of a mess but I still had to clean it.
