I'm trying to convince DH that we need a deep freezer from Costco. He thinks we should continue to store stuff at his mom's house since she lives nearby. I was ok with sharing her freezer when we were in an apartment but I want one for our own house!
Do you have to talk your SO into purchases?

Not really if it's something that we don't have that we may need. If it's to replace something I dont like that we have an functions, then it's a little more difficult. Usually if I want it bad enough though, he's ok with it... but I need to convince myself first. Best example... we HAAAATE our side by side fridge... and know we'll replace it "one day", but haven't convinced ourselves that we *need* to yet.

For larger purchases $150 or more and larger items that take up more room... yes, I do.
For the chest freezer, I had to keep asking him if I could get it and really convince him that it could benefit us.
Finally, he let me get it after I found a great price and he probably wanted to shut me up because every other conversation was...'Well, if we had a chest freezer..." Haha.

@MrsBrewer: I have to convince him to stop buying movies, comics, hardbacked collector edition books, magazine... all things that can get expensive after a while.
He has to convince me out of kitchen gadgets and small appliances and things for the home.
See, my purchases can benefit both of us. 
He sees it as adding more clutter to our place. Then I bring up his comic book, hardbacked books and movie collection. One is functional, and the other is for pleasure. You can tell we can't agree on this yet.

Not really, we both kind of buy what we want, within reason. For large purchases, the only time we've really disagreed has been with the pool vaccum robot...but man did I eat my words when I had to vac the pool with the rechargeable one the previous owners left us.

For most big purchases, we agree on it. I tend to defend what I want to buy because that's my nature living with two lawyers, one being your brother. We veto some desires of each other's like when he wanted a pot rack for kitchen. It would have looked so ugly and not very baby friendly with the setup, so I vetoed that.

Sometimes. I find it works best if I suggest things and let him think about for a couple days and then think it is his idea

Get the freezer before your MIL starts bathing in all of your breast milk!

We're totally opposite - he is the spender and thinks he needs something the second it pops into his head.

Yes! He's very frugal, but I'm usually able to wear him down. This is for big purchases, smaller stuff I just buy.

Not usually; he's pretty free-wheeling with the benjamins!!
With real estate though, he (and my dad!) are both nervous nellies. I have to be the one to drive any sale/purchase, and I'm the one who managed/manages every aspect of our rental property.

He always has to talk to me into purchases - he's definitely the spender! Yesterday he came home with iced coffee from McDonalds and the disclaimer "it was only a dollar!". I think I've got him scared.
