I'm from a family of lip kissers so I never thought of it as something I shouldn't do...but once DD was here, it just seemed not quite right. I'm also prone to cold sores and I'm trying really hard to avoid spreading that to her, so it just seems safest not to kiss on the lips. Turns out she's not much of a kisser anyway, so I'm lucky if I can even plant one on her cheek or forehead! She usually runs away. So I mostly get relegated to top-of-the-head kisses while we read books.

Of course! My oldest prefers kisses on the cheek or forehead, so we oblige, but the littles get lip kisses.

Absolutely! For as long as they'll allow. They've started offering their cheeks sometimes instead, and that's ok too. I grew up in a family that only kissed on the cheek, but I think it's sweet and I have loved my slobbery baby kisses!

I used too. But then I kept getting sick and LO wanted to kiss everyone on the lips so I stopped. Once in a while I still do tho

So many cultural variations to consider, but @regberadaisy: that makes my heart hurt that you wanted it and didn't get it We do, and plan to let the boys take the lead on when they want to stop. Nothing sweeter than a big old kiss on the lips from them, even when we get the little boy wiping kisses off! They still very willingly pucker up though. My family is still very much this way, my husband's family isn't very affectionate, so I try to make up for it.

Nope. I don't come from lip-kissing folks and it doesn't come naturally to me to do that with her. I've always kissed her on the forehead and cheeks. When I ask her "can I have a kiss?" she leans her forehead in and it's so cute! The funny thing is, when I ask her to kiss one of her animals she kisses them on the forehead haha. It's like she thinks whoever is bigger is the forehead kisser and whoever is smaller is the kissee? lol I've never gotten her to actually give me a kiss because she just thinks she is supposed to head-butt my lips with her forehead

Um YES! I kiss my 2.5 year old daughter as much as she will let me hahahaha. She sometimes does this really cute thing where she will say "Extra kisses" and start making the kissing noise over and over until I come kiss her. I will do this until she makes me stop.

Yes all the time. I'm guessing it won't last forever though since I don't recall kissing my mom on the lips except at an early age and never my dad! My son is only 3.5 now

I've been continuing to think about this (who knows why?), and I realized my initial answer wasn't accurate. I kiss around her mouth, particularly between her lips and nose, but I don't kiss her straight on the lips. DH doesn't either.

Yes! For as long as they'll let me.
My kids are very affectionate and they will try to go in for lip kisses with other people sometimes. We are trying to tell them that they're for close family only.

Yes yes yes. I love it. It's totally different from a romantic kiss to me - it's just eating up their sweet babyhood and toddlerhood. I probably won't once they hit later preschool if it starts to bother them.
