Elastic bracelets!
DH's lil cousin made us some over Christmas. So I gifted a friend's daughter a kit, she's obsessed!

Yes that's what all the "cool kids" are making now. LOL I like them, they are neat looking.

Yes. We visit the Learning Express for DS to play and check out toys. I always see parents buying the loom boxes with personalized names.

Hahaha! I overheard the older sister of my LOs playmate being told by another older girl that she has the rainbow loom, so that's definitely cooler than the plain loom! Kids are hilarious.

Yes, I have two nieces...but to my surprise the bigger obsession comes from my 10 year old and 7 year old nephews! (surprise not because they're boys but because they're pretty much glued to video games and action figures).

now i do, because of you! lol... never heard of it until i opened this thread.

Yes, daycare kids are all obsessed. I don't get why, but there are definitely worse things that could be all the rage!

@lovehoneybee: I was also surprised that I first heard about them from boys who are normally all superheroes and video games. I was kind of excited to see something that didn't involve a screen or someone battling someone else I wouldn't say I think they're nice looking, but I just like kids doing something

Yes, my students are playing with them all day and they drive me crazy.

my kids are obsessed! THey make this retro looking ones that are a bracelet and then goes down the front of their hand and makes a ring around their middle finger.

Too complicated for me!

I heard of it, but haven't seen it in person nor know fully what they are about/how they're made.

My students were so into this for the first half of the school year but it seems to be calming down now.

Yeah. I've never seen anyone making a bracelet though.

My DD and DS1 both love their loom - the craze does seem to be dying down a bit ... thankfully, I was going broke on those elastics!
I do love that DS and his friends are into the loom - it's a nice change from power rangers and ninja turtles.

Yea, I forget when or why I heard about it, but shortly after I did I saw some kids, 2 boys and a girl, all huddled around a loom making a bracelet while riding on the subway, it was hilarious!

I think it's already phasing out? Hehe. I knew all the kids at church were obsessed with it for a while but w/ the short attentions spans youth have, I think this fad is already on it's way out!

My 5 yr old DS was obsessed! He couldn't get the hang of making them so I had to make them - haha - after about a month he was over it and now I have about 1000 colored rubberbands.....

Haha yes our neighbor girl keeps bringing some over for DD, she's made bracelets for everyone. She's too cute

yes! similar to friendship bracelets and these plastic keychain thingys we made in elementary school!

I've heard of them, but haven't really seen any. I was going to get some for my niece for Christmas (she's 16), but I think she's too old for that?

Ugh, yes, and now I constantly have to "remind" my nieces and nephews that they can't leave the rubber bands all over our house b/c the baby can eat them. They're still everywhere!

I just bought my DD a kit for Valentines Day! Was putting it off for a while, but I think we are ready to get obsessed now!

Yes, and had a two week time period when I was obsessed. My nieces and nephews taught me how to make them and they thinks it's really cool when I make complicated ones for them.

@SAHM0811: ooh let me know how it goes with your DD. I don't know if my DD is dexterous enough yet but was thinking about buying one for her and saving it for later.
I got one for my 9 yr old niece who lives in Singapore.
I think she's gonna start a craze there too

@T-Mom: I felt the same way! But DD has a history of weak fine motor skills (exhibited with coloring lightly and some trouble with handwriting), so I'm thinking maybe this will actually help her dexterity and strength? I was also worried about the mess it would make and the fights that might ensue with the 2 yo around, but we'll see how it goes... I'll let you know
