Do you have any friends that should break up with their SO? I have a friend who is so unhappy in her relationship and constantly sends me pro/con lists to staying or leaving. I don't want to go overboard with advice but this has been going on for years!

I used to but they FINALLY broke up. My BFF was in a terrible emotionally damaging relationship and it was like a Taylor Swift song (never ever ever getting back together, just kidding let's torture ourselves some more!)
He actually dumped her and walked away and it was the best thing ever for her. As her best friend, all I could do was tell her how I felt.. often. It was really hard on our friendship and after awhile, she stopped talking to me about it. I tried being subtle but like you, after years, enough was enough and I had to chime in!

Definitely. And it's kinda sad when you think about it, that about half of the married couples we know will end up divorcing (based on the odds).

Yup. A very good friend of mine is in a rotten relationship, but at least they aren't married and don't have kids.

I know married couples who I wish had broken up before tying the knot...but once it's tied, I would never try to intervene.

We have one couple friend that no one thought should get married, but they did, continued the fighting and drama. It was weird going to the wedding thinking, I hope this either works, or they figure out that it's not working before they have kids. Well, they have a kid now, and seem to be OK, so now I'm just hopeful it works. They are the only ones though, all the rest of our friends in couples seem really well suited for each other and I'd be really sad if they broke up.

I know that couples that seem unhappy but I've learnt my lesson and I never say they should break up or anything. I just listen and then tell them to follow their heart and gut instinct

Yes! A few couples actually, the couples that break up and get back together constantly! And then profess their undying love for each other all over Facebook and twitter! I'm like "who are you guys kidding?! You just broke up" it's annoying!

@kpow: Yeah, her lists make me so sad. Pros: is he is good looking(yes, but a jerk) and she doesn't have to be single. Cons: I'll just name a few...he shows no interest in her friends and family, can't keep a job and smokes pot all day, doesn't want to get married or have kids (she does)...the cons have been the same for years!

I have a gf with an alcoholic bf who is a total loser and has been in college (undergrad) for 8 years because he keeps failing.
I have no idea why she won't leave him.I also have a gf with a bf who refuses to propose. They have been together for 8 years, own a house together, and she wants nothing more than to get married and start a family. I would have dumped his ass and found someone who actually wants to make a commitment to me.

OH wow yes I also have GF's whos BF's won't propose and I"m like "Get out now!!!" But of course I just keep my mouth shut
But yeah, I've been to three weddings where clearly the groom wasn't even interested in the bride. It's really sad. One is going through a divorce now and the other two wives got pregnant immediately after walking down the aisle.

Yep, we sort of lost our friendship over it.... her now DH is a compulsive liar and a cheater, I couldn't be around that any longer.

About the guys who won't propose... My husband took about 7 years to finally propose to me. We had been living together for 6 of those 7 years. Some guys are just slow... My husband likes to be in control, and he makes decisions slowly and purposefully.
We had friends who got engaged a couple of years ago and I was SURE they were not going to work out. Thankfully they broke off the engagement after about a year of fighting constantly.

Actually just had some friends who just got divorced. Its something everyone saw coming and are happy it fianmlly happened. I know that sounds aweful...but they got married super fast and were jsut so different. To the point where there horrible relationship ended our friendship. It just got twisted, its so hard to explain but it became a "toxic" friendship where DH and I didnt want there issues to mess with us and we walked away.

Yes. Just one. She cut off all friendships after being with this guy. He is really disrespectful and very controlling...it's really too bad. We rarely talk anymore...

YES! Ah my SIL and her DH. They hate every thing about each other, are polar opposites, have no common interests, nothing. They were drunk their entire dating relationship and she got pregnant on the honeymoon, so now they would never split up because they have a DD which makes me sad for them (particularly BIL) I just want to shake him and scream "LEAVE HER ALREADY!" They are miserable with each other and make everyone miserable when they are around. Maybe if they started drinking again they might like eachother?

@mrs. bird: seriously! It was a whoops baby conceived 2 months before the wedding. I honestly think the wedding would have been cancelled if it weren't for the baby. The two of them looked miserable the whole time.

Yep. She's been unhappy for years, he's cheated on her, doesn't help out around the house, left her, etc. We were out of touch for awhile, so she hasn't complained recently, so maybe things have changed for the better. I hope so ... she's an awesome girl and deserves so much better!

I know a couple that shouldn't be together and it sucks. I am fairly close with her but not close enough to say something. Plus she just seems to go for guys that aren't any good for her and this guy isn't horrible, they just don't ever seem happy...
