Irish twins = siblings born within the same calendar year or within a 12-month period.
I know three sets of siblings less than 12 months apart. The closest age gap is 11 months and a few days.

2 of my cousins are irish twins! They get along now but I'm not always sure that was the case growing up. I also know there is still a bit of rivalry, although I think it is mostly one sided (the younger is envious of the older sister).

I know a few that are close (13-20 months apart) but no true Irish twins!! Actually an old HS friend I think MAYBE but I don't know him well enough to know their birthdays. More power to those mamas.... holy cow!!!!

Two sets. I babysat for some when I was a teenager and a nanny I know had her daughters less than a year apart also. A friend almost did, but they're 13 months apart.

Oh I thought Irish twins were siblings with the same birthdate, different year. Does that have a name?

I know a family with Irish twins...both the sisters are my age. We grew up together.

Nope, I don't know any in real life. I follow a blog that has kids a year apart exactly but thats the closest.
@kjpugs: haha this seems to be everyones reaction and I would love to have irish twins. I just *selfishly* want 2 kids and want to be done being pregnant, like yesterday. Also I figure you never recover from the no sleep so it just extends it a bit instead of being totally done to turn around and do it again. As long as it took us to conceive last time its not likely but still.

My mom went to school with Irish twins. One born in January, the other born in December of the same year.
One if our groomsmen is an Irish twin.
My brother and I were almost Irish twins. He was born 12 days after my first birthday.

@jetsa: I am in the glass half full camp if we get KU again soon after too, because exactly what you said- get the diapers, sleeplessness, etc, done SOONER! I am hoping for 1.5-2.5 years apart (especially because my sister and I are 20 months apart and great friends.) But less than 12 months still seems daunting to me, just a little!

A friend of mine is an Irish triplet (that's what she called it) - her mom had twins 11 months after she was born!!

My cousin just had her 2nd child a month before her 1st daughter's first birthday. I've met many sets of close siblings as a teacher! I would just about die if I had Irish twins. In fact, I had a hard cider the other day that tasted funny and took a pregnancy test just to make sure I *wasnt* pregnant! It's my worst fear right now
