I know three. You wouldn't know it though. They don't flaunt it.

@Leialou: we have MANY around here in our specific area/city
Most of the people I know have a millionaire at least in their extended families.

Many that I interact with at work and several friends. Tech was good to them in the 90s!

FIL, but he doesn't spend frivolously so you can't tell.

Yep, but you'd never know it. I live in a fairly rural farming town and some of our "country folk" are actually pretty well off!

Yes; family, friends and some co-workers. None of them flaunt it - all the big rocks and fancy cars belong to others (making less bank)

I have a relative that is a millionaire. You wouldn't know it to look at them. The wife takes pride in shopping at Payless, for example.

I have a relative who is a fairly recent (late 1990s) self-made millionaire. He is pretty humble about it and gives a lot of money away. Other than him, nope.

@littlek: wow! There are only about 1000 billionaires on the planet. I recently read a feature in Fortune mag listing (nearly) all of them!
I'm sure I know some millionaires but I don't know for sure since I haven't discussed finances with them. But it was good to be in tech in the late 90s.

I do. he acts like he's broke. I guess that's how he managed to save so much in the first place

Yup, we have some in our family but you definitely wouldn't know it. They're incredibly down to earth and very frugal, although they do have nice houses and take nice vacations. They just don't waste money on frivolous things or go around flaunting it.

I grew up in a town where the median household income is $250k and the median home price is $750k so even though we were the poor kids in town by comparison, a lot of my friends were millionaires. I also have a politician/lawyer uncle who's a millionaire.

@fussygal: DH's job requires him to review bank loans and the borrowers financial info. He used to work in KY, VA, and WVA and would tell me stories about the unassuming wealth some of these rural communities had.
I'm sure I know a millionaire or two, but to me a millionaire is not rich. I would imagine these folks still need to work to maintain their lifestyle.

Yup - we know a few. Some act like it - some dont...and some act like it but aren't (those are the ones I get a kick out of).
Only two or three at our age (30) - the rest are parents friends or people we know/have met from the country club.

A few...I bet I know more and I just don't know it. But, we're most familiar with the man who owns DH's company and his son, who runs DH's warehouse.

As in ones that are in my social circle, probably some that I don't realize. Technically, both my husband and I have earned over a million dollars each, but there's nothing close to that in our bank accounts, LOL!

Quite a few but it doesn't mean much around here. A single family home, 2br 1000sf, is close to $500,000.

Just one family, they're very proud of it and flaunt it. I liked them better before they made it big. They're still sweet, but money doesn't always do people well.

@rachiecakes: haha I totally agree... millionaires are a dime a dozen in our city!

Lots as where I work is in one of the most expensive areas in CA.
