My aunt changed her first name. I don't even remember what my grandma named her.... but she did officially go and legally change it. My uncle (not blood) changed his name too, but not legally. He just goes by something else.

My cousin went and legally changed his middle name to the letter R.

A good friend of mine legally changed her name at age sixty-five. I still accidentally call her by her old name.

Oh also a good friend of mine had her middle name legally changed and now goes by that middle name in social settings. She went from a Heather to a Davida

@artbee: That's my mom's name! Well, it's actually her nickname. Her real name is Lilia.

Speaking of which, my mom's birth certificate shows a completely different name. Apparently, the person writing it out really like a name and forced it on her certificate. My grandma had to travel a long way to register it and never bothered changing it, so my mom had to do it as an adult.

I know 2 other people that's changed their names, both guys. One guy changed his Vietnamese name to Jason when he got naturalized as a citizen, the other went from Chris to Eric once he entered college, I don't think it's official though.

My friend didn't like her Korean name so she changed to an American one.

I went from my Korean name (legal) to my nickname + husband's last name when I got married.

My aunt changed hers from Lynne to Lynn. She was just sick of people calling her Lynn-ee.

Similar to @regberadaisy: and @chopsuey19: , when I got married, I changed my Vietnamese name to the American nickname that everyone knows me by. My given name is now hyphenated with my given middle name.

My cousin did, for a little, but not legally. His name is Garth, and for a few years (in high school and just out of high school, I think) he changed it to Dejon. He went back to Garth at some point.

My second cousin changed her name. It was a super unusual, very childlike-cutesy name, and she switched to Lauren. Lauren was way better because she's a lawyer and the other name didn't sound like a professional at all. I always think about her when I hear certain names people consider for their kids. The name has to be able to grow with the person!

Yep... a friend from church. Everyone called her one name, then I ended up at the same hs as her and found that everyone at school called her something else.

There are several others who got "english" names later on in life.

my legal name is my aunts name (moms sister) and my middle name is my moms name. Sister (11 when i was born) didnt like either name and started calling me something totally different. I have always wanted to legally change it but dont have the heart to.

My current name means "little one" in spanish...granted i am the youngest of six.

I legally changed my first, middle, and last name when I got married. My old middle name is my new first name. I have a new middle name, and obvs new last name.
