I don't know anyone, but my tech and OB never told me they were 100% sure my LO was a girl.
Glad she was though!

We couldn't get an ultrasound appointment with an in-network doctor quickly enough, so we went to a practice in Chinatown while we were waiting. BIG MISTAKE! The doctors there told us Charlie would be a girl. We got all excited, but then when Bee had another ultrasound with our in-network provider then we quickly found out we were having a boy.

Yep, my best friend. She had a 3D/4D ultrasound before her regular one. It was fairly early (like 14/15 weeks I think) and she was told her baby was a boy. Then 2 weeks later, she found out he was actually a SHE. We were all shocked!

I worry all the time that LO will turn out to be a boy instead of a girl. An irrational fear of mine.

Yep. My mom was told that my sister was a boy - I think based more on heart rate and the way she was carrying than any sort of anatomy-confirmation. They had him (her) named and everything...until she was born!

I had an elective U/S at 13.5 weeks and the tech said "80% sure it's a girl".
I took that with a grain of salt.
Then at 17w she said "100% it's a boy" so we made her show us! And then at 21w I went in again and yepp: still a boy! I have pictures to prove it:)

My mom did! The doctors thought I'd be a boy and well, TA DA! I'm a girl!

yup one of charlie's closest friend's mom was told her second child was a girl, but it turned out to be a boy! they found out the gender early though -- before the 20 week scan.

I do know some people that were told they were having a girl and it was a boy. Don't know how that happened...
persimmon / 1202 posts
I was a "very modest baby." When I came out, they all were saying "he" this and "him" that. My mom started crying (after two semi-complicated pregnancies, I was necessarily her last), telling herself she could love another little boy. THEN the doctor went "Oh yeah, it's a girl!" It's not often that they tell you the wrong gender at birth. Military doctors...

Yes! my husbands friend from high school was all amped about his boy. he got the 3D/4D scans and i never saw a potty shot but they were pretty far along because you could see smiles and stuff, then SHE was born via c-section. It's not very common, especially boys turning out girls, but it DOES happen and no tech is supposed to say 100%

My stepmom was told my brother was a girl all during her pregnancy. She was really surprised when he was born!

Yes! A close friend of ours was supposed to be a girl. His parents had a name picked out and everything. They didn't know any different until he was born.

Our ultrasound tech said that LO would be a boy, she was 100% sure and she's right but funny thing when we told our OB that, she said "Well keep all the (baby stuffs) receipts still because you just never know, I've seen it happen many times, it's the other gender!" Ha!

Yes, one of my high school friends was all ready for her little girl, but then at the birth he turned out to be a boy! Lots of clothing returns happened soon after.
We were 100% sure with our son, but my husband and I can read ultrasounds, so we could see the equipment right away.

Yes, I know numerous people! There were five misread ultrasounds in one month at the local hospital.

My MIL was told her 3rd child was a girl, turned out he was a boy, her 3rd. She was pretty disappointed.

Yep! I joined a due date club forum and one of the ladies was told she was having a girl and she had a boy. Surprise!

My friend from high school was told she'll be having a girl. She got everything in pink and even washed them all! In the hospital, everyone bought "It's a Girl" balloons and stuffed animals with pink bows. She had a boy! But that was 14 years ago. I haven't heard it happening lately.
honeydew / 7235 posts
Yes! My sisters, SIL was told it was a boy, And sure enough it was a girl! They had bought all boy things and decorated the nursery for a boy! This was only 7 years ago.
I don't get how this happened as with our boy I have a clear potty shot of his 'cash an prizes'

My coworker's wife was told she was having a boy, turned out to be twin girls! This was back in the early 80's. Guess one if the girls leg was mistaken for a lil penis. Haha

at 16 weeks they told me girl, then at 18 weeks, boy! boy it was!

my DH's cousin had 2 U/S be wrong. They were expecting a Madeline and out popped a Jacob! Luckily she had one of each gender before so she had clothes on hand for the new boy! He is 18 months, so it was very recent.

My coworker was told boy, him and his wife were ecstatic since that was what they were hoping for. A later scan however told them girl, they had a beautiful girl last month.
My uncle was told girl and ended up having a boy.
I was told girl at 12 weeks and that they were 150% sure. DD is now 5 weeks old

My cousin and his wife did! An ultrasound said girl, but a little boy came out.

A friend from church was planning on a little girl, but out popped a boy! Luckily they already had a boy, so he didn't have to wear all pink.

I was!! Dr told my parents that I was a boy, but I turned out to be 100% girl. Granted this was 30 years ago and perhaps the ultrasound technology was not as sophisticated, but needless to say, lots of exchanges for clothing

I have a friend who at her 22 week U/S was told it was a boy...at her last sono before delivery they found out it was girl!
pineapple / 12526 posts
My friend was told she was havimg a girl... His name is Christopher. They found out in the delivery room. They had a girl nursery, a girl name and all girl clothing and gear.

I have heard of one gender scan that was incorect....but WORSE than that I heard from an older gal who works in my building. She was older when she had her last baby (19yrs ago). She did not get any U/S but she was required to have a amniocentesis. Her results were not good. She found out and was prepared to have a little girl who they beleived would suffer from Down Syn. She had all the training and classes she could get to prepare herself for this....she had a healthy baby boy. Some how her results were switched with someone else.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
@Rescuemom10: omg!!! How terrible that they mixed results like that! Imagine if she'd terminated as a result of the amnio?

My Dad thought I was a boy when I came out bc my cord was tied in a particular way. He was really excited and yelled out "It's a boy!" then got the news that I was actually a girl
pear / 1965 posts
@sorrycharlie: I know right? I coudl not beleive it when she told me. How crazy!
She said she felt horrible for the women whos results she got. Because she did everything to prepare herself for having a down baby (she had the nursery and pink clothes and all thinking it was a girl too), but that the person who would now give birth to the baby she thought she was going to have was going to be unprepared and not as "ready for it" as she was.

the first question I asked after my c-section was, "WAIT! Is it still a girl?!" I was so releived when they said yes lol
GOLD / pomelo / 5167 posts
As of recent(technology), no. I've always heard of stories, but wonder if those were myths. But in the past the docs told my MIL she was having a girl but it was a boy.
pomegranate / 3414 posts
Yep, my cousins. They were told they were having a girl and the baby shower was apparently nothing but pink (I was unable to attend). They ended up having a boy on April Fools day; apparently my cousin asked the doctor if it was a joke when they were told it was a boy at delivery.
pomelo / 5331 posts
This is hilarious. Our tech told us (at 12.5 weeks) at our NT scan that she was 70% sure it was a boy. Uhhh, OK. Let's talk again in two months, kay?
pear / 1965 posts
This is NOT gender but 32 yrs ago my Aunt went into labor, ended up having twins and had no idea. Thought she was only havin one. My uncle left the delivery room and a nurse had to run after him yelling "wait there is another one!"
