I don't mind them from family and friends, but coworkers and strangers who comment irritate me. I think it's totally inappropriate to comment on someone else's body in the workplace regardless of the situation. It's starting to annoy me too when the same women cruise by my desk just to stare at my bump and put in a 'boy' or 'girl' guess.

I didn't get many, but was only annoyed by one - a security guard at my school asked if I was sure I was only having one.

I get totally annoyed. The only people I don't get annoyed with about it are my parents, sister, and DH because they are very sweet about it and say things because they're excited. The 'You're about to pop!' and "Are you sure its only one in there?" people can go DIAF.

I went through a few months where I didn't mind, mostly because it was a smallish, cute bump, and I liked that people were noticing my pregnancy, but now I'm at 32w and I'm HUGE, and I really, realllllly hate all the comments about my belly size. My dad, who has no tact, commented all weekend about it, and I thought I was going to kill him!

I haven't gotten many so far (for obvious reasons, I'm only a little over 15 weeks), but the ones I have gotten have all been about how "I'm not big enough/not showing enough/everyone else I've known has been showing by now/etc." I always thought that'd be what I wanted, but now that it's happening, I feel like I'm "not showing enough!"

It depends on what the comment is. If it's "oh you look great!" then obviously I don't mind. I went to dinner with a friend a couple of months ago and the first thing she said when she saw me was "you don't look pregnant, you just look chubby!" I didn't appreciate that one very much!

@ms.janedoe & @anbanan15: its frustrating because people feel they are paying you a compliment by saying that you are small etc. but in reality your mind races to - am I not eating enough? Is the baby too small/not growing properly??

I think the only appropriate comment is you look fantastic =) People have been saying that there is no way I am due in July being as small as I am etc. I just smile and try not to make reference to the fact that the dr who has clearly gone to medical school vs. the accounting background that most of my peers have may make them better suited to draw such a conclusion. Tends to end the conversation rather quickly!

What is wrong with people??

I was getting comments about how small I was for a while (note-- not small, my weight gain was like, exactly the recommended amount, freakishly so). It made me paranoid that I wasn't gaining enough, but still, I didn't mind it TOO much. Then a switch flipped and all of a sudden it was, "Not too much longer now!" And I was like... well, 2 and a half months. As opposed to the 3 months when everyone was saying I was so small?

I have decided that most people just genuinely don't know what a 9 month pregnant person looks like, because let's face it, you are only that big for a really short period of time and often you are quite the homebody by then. So, they think of the biggest pregnant person they usually see and assume that's 9 months?

I have mostly gotten positive comments though, like, You look beautiful, or You are a very cute pregnant woman. THOSE I don't mind, even if it's weird for a random person on the escalator to say it.

I haven't gotten any rude ones (yet), but I'm only 33 weeks, so there's still lots of time. I work in a school with mostly women, so I get *a lot* of comments. The ones I like are along the lines of, "you're carrying so well", or "you look really great as a pregnant woman", or something like that--and tehre are some coworkers who've said that type of thing. I love those comments, because I feel like it's totally not true!!!

The ones I don't like are the comments from coworkers like, "Wow, you are really getting big". That's not rude exactly--it's true, afterall--I just don't need to hear it several times a day. And since I work with mostly women and they all love to talk about pregnancy, I do hear it several times a day.

i dont mind people being curious and throwing out nice compliements haha. BUT i was always getting "Are you having twins?" and "YOUR huge" and then they would laugh hysterically. omg i wanted to kill strangers who would do this, so rude!

The one that always makes me laugh is 'From the back, you don't even look pregnant,' which mystifies me bc how does one look pregnant from the back anyways? As far as I know, the bump only grows forwards so...it just always strikes me as a funny thing to say, even tho I know it's meant to be a compliment.

In general, I don't mind. But recently, I've been getting a little sad when people say, "You barely have a bump! You don't even look pregnant!" Meanwhile, I'm 22 weeks. I feel sad because I start getting worried that maybe something is wrong with the growth of this baby...

Not particularly, I wouldn't mind if they were really complimentary, but most of them aren't, they aren't rude, just the norm, look how big you are, big baby, or whatever. I probably wouldn't mind them if I personally felt better about my pregnant body.

The most irritating comment was just the other day though, I have a friend who is much taller and thinner than me normally, but she is pregnant and about 5 weeks behind me. We went out to dinner with a group and our friend looked at me then looked at her and said "how far behind you is she in pregnancy", I said 5 weeks, and they said "doesn't look like it" clearly implying she is much much smaller than me, which is true and obvious and so not helpful. That made me feel awesome.

@rahlyrah, @grizz: haha!!! So true! I've had all those comments too. Do people not have the sense to keep their comments to themselves!!?? They know we're pumped full of hormones at this point and you don't want to anger a pregnant lady!! : )

@rahlyrah: yeah, I got the "that's going to be a big baby" comments a lot. I carried mostly in the belly, only gained 15 lbs or so, and baby ended up being 5.5 lbs. So there bagel shop lady!

It depends... "What a cute bump"- good comment
"Your doctor is going to put you on a diet soon! Are you sure it's not twins?!" - bad comment

@Trailmix: I get that one too! I guess people think I'm having a boy because I would've "expanded" more with girl? It's funny though.

I don't mind them usually. Most of the comments so far (16 weeks) come from my 5 year olds at work or their parents. I feel like I'm showing earlier, probably because I'm really short. I haven't gotten any rude comments yet.
