Love, love, love it.
My favorite are the shrimp rice noodles and chicken feet. Haha egg tart fresh out of the oven is always amazing.
And at the dim sum place near my brother's house they make these glutinous rice balls rolled in peanut butter flour with a filling. Yum. I always eat like 4-6 of those for dessert.

Love it! Although I have no idea what is usually in it, we just point and eat!

Mediocre for me. We go almost every weekend with the in-laws and the stress takes away from the taste.

We have it so often that I just like it... meh.
I think if I didn't have it pretty much every other weekend I would love it. I did miss it when I was in college

@locavore_mama: Because my MIL can be a giant pill and seeing her first thing on a Saturday morning isn't my cup of tea.

@Rubies: I can feel your pain! I could barely enjoy seeing Switzerland because it was with my MIL.
I looooooove dim sum! My faves are shrimp dumplings (ha gow),
radish cake and egg tart!

@Bao: it is Chinese tapas for brunch! In the old days you would go to a restaurant and the servers roll carts around with the different foods and they shout out what they have. In most modern restaurants they don't shout anymore and in some places you just order off a menu and there are no rolling carts anymore.
And that's one place you can get bao (buns).

I grew up eating dim sum to go in SF. Plenty of yelling and most of the same food. They call it dim sum but I don't know if that qualifies. Maybe theres another name? Thinking about it makes me hungry.

Nope, I always hated it because I find it way too greasy. DH doesn't understand (he's Korean, I'm Chinese and I introduced him to dim sum). He's obsessed!

Love it! Its a huge thing in the city I grew up in and there's some great places where I live now. I was kind of disappointed that LO wasn't super into it when we took her. She's normally all about new food and people watching. But we'll convert her to being a dim sum fan in time.

dimdum, esp in HK! But NY has pretty decent dimsum too. My favorite is pan fried chive buns, black bean spare ribs, chicken feet and intestines!

Yummy stuff. Love the shrimp crepes, egg tarts, shrimp dumplings, chive dumplings, turnip cakes, sticky rice in banana leaf. The best dim sum I've had was in Toronto.

@Rubies: Same here, we go with my in-laws every few weeks, so that really has taken the enjoyment away from dimsum, haha. I used to LOVE it!

Oh yes please! I love it, and have always had a great time but feel like I need a translator because I am never quite sure what I am getting. I always have more fun going with someone in the know

LOOOOOOOOOVE it. I never have a clue what I'm getting, but I think that's part of the fun. The first time I had dimsum, I was in San Francisco by myself so I went to Chinatown and wandered down little side streets and picked a place that seemed like a lot of locals were going into. Everyone at my table took me under wing! They were so nice and were trying to improve my chopstick skills, etc. without us actually being able to talk to one another. It was one of my favorite experiences, and I think dimsum has an extra special place in my heart because of that first experience. I wish we had a dimsum place anywhere nearby.

@locavore_mama: Ok so I was at the Reading Terminal Market in Philly a few weeks ago and they had a huge thing of chicken feet and I thought "what in the world do people do with those"????
I would have never guessed "eat them"
I thought - soup stock?

@Mamaof2: hahaha yes. It's hard to describe but it's kinda stewed with like jalapeƱo peppers in like a chili oil sauce.

I'm not a fan, mostly because I'm vegetarian and there usually isn't much I can eat

I've never had it! I've always wanted to, though!
In Australia, we went to a Chinese food place and I think they called it dimsum, but we didn't get to pick what we ate - it was a work dinner for my husband and they just brought us plate after plate after plate. It was really good - so much food! But I didn't really know what most of it was, I just ate it.

@Bao: That's too funny, I always thought your handle referred to bao as in buns! Now you HAVE to go get some dim sum!
