My daughter has a pretty common name but a few times people have asked if I prefer the "eh" sound or the "ay" sound in the first syllable. I love when they ask because I do prefer the "ay" sound.
Do you like it when people ask how to pronounce your child's name? Or does it annoy you?

Yes, because it's somewhat unique. I do appreciate it. Most people think she/we are saying Isla, but we are not.

Yes because they both have two possible pronunciations. In any case, I politely correct right away if they choose the wrong one.

My sister is Megan, and while people say it the "ay" way, when people would ask, my mom always said her true name is the "eh" way.
Only one person has ever asked about LO2's name, thinking it was pronounced Adri-Anne, instead of Adri-en (spelled Adrienne). I appreciated she asked.

I can't think of any other possible pronunciations so I think if people see my girls' names, they know how to say them!

People ask about both my kids a lot and I do appreciate it - i'd rather they ask then consistently pronounce them wrong. My kids don't have crazy names, you just don't often hear them around these parts so people's tongues aren't used to them.

With my second I would be thoroughly confused how else it could be pronounced.
I've never had anyone ask about C's name, but technically you could pronounce the A a little differently. I did have someone ask if it was spelled with an H and I was thrown- I was like, No... Where would you put an H?? (At the end, like Sarah, in case you were wondering).

I don't think anyone has asked about either of their names, but they're pretty common names. Not sure they can really be pronounced any other way...

People know how to say D's when they see it, but when we introduce him, they often say "Oh, hi, Jackson!" and then we have to correct them (it's like Jackson but with a D). He's starting to correct them himself, though, which makes me happy. My sister had a somewhat different name and people frequently mispronounced it and she never corrected them. Her dance instructor called her by the wrong name for 14 years because she never bothered to correct her!
People do ask about A's name, whether it's pronounced with long-Ay or short-Ah sound.

I like when people ask if they remember what I say. DHs grandma says our sons name wrong ALL the time even after we've told her how to say it 173728 times.

My girls names don't really have alternate pronunciations but they do have alternate spellings. We use the most common ways to spell their names but we get asked a lot.

@Mrs. Champagne: my MIL can't remember how to spell DD2's name. My grandma usually gets it wrong as well but I find that a smidge less annoying because she used to spell my cousins name as brain instead of Brian all the time lol

People don't ask, they just pronounce it wrong all the time. I honestly don't understand with. Her name is Jana. (rhymes with Anna) SOOO many people pronounce it Jane-a

Yes, it's not hard to pronounce but unusual. People also ask if she's a boy. But we have a shorter/girly sounding NN we use mostly.

I've never had anyone ask. But I've been amazed at the amount of people who have never heard of Declan, or who can't pronounce it. It's phonetic people! There's one nurse at our ped who constantly calls him Deek-lin and it drives me nuts.

@MrsBrewer: I think john-a is frozen's fault. Now whenever I see anna I pronounce it that way in my head even though my entire life I've said it more Ann-a.

@Foodnerd81: I didn't even think of that to be honest! I can kind of see that now. Although that pronunciation has only happened a few times. I still get "Jane-ah" a lot more for DD
