I do, but more as a nickname for Sylvia than a stand alone name.

I think if you want an honest response you need a poll. People are less likely to respond with a negative.

Yes!!! My old coworker's name is Silvie and she was so sweet and chic I have a great association with that name!

I know several women named Sylvie (it's not an uncommon name for French women in Canada). It's probably more unique in the US though. I don't have any strong feelings for it either way. Not sure if that's what you're looking for?

It's ok...I know a few French women named Sylvie, it's definitely a name for someone in their 30s/40s.

I voted "it's OK" because I really like the name Sylvia, even though I associate it with older women, and think it could easily make a comeback and be used on a baby and call her Sylvie when she was a little girl/if she preferred it when she was older. However, I would personally give her the full name Sylvia because I'm not a fan of diminuitives as full names, especially when they end in the -ie sound (Gracie, Katie, Abbie, etc.): love them as nicknames, but I know I would personally appreciate having Sylvia as an option to put on a resume, etc.

I like it a lot, we try to find names that won't sound bad with either the french or English speaking side of our families so we strongly considered it with our girls and might use it in the future. @ILoveLettie: It's not a nickname, it's the french version of Sylvia.

@Maysprout: I realize it doesn't have to be a nickname, though I didn't know it was officially the French version. What I was saying--though it probably wasn't clear and I apologize--is that I personally don't like names with the -ie, -y sound at the end because they sound like nicknames, at least to me here in America, even if they aren't, which is why I prefer Sylvia. But it's just my personal preference

I prefer it as a nickname, but Sylvia was my beloved spitfire of a great-grandmother, so I'm more a fan of that name instead.

I don't love it (and I love your other DD's names!). I don't hate it, but it's not my favorite.
