I generally like to go out but this year I asked for DH's chicken parmesan dinner and homemade pasta.
My husband prefers to stay home and cook.

I like to go out for both of our birthdays unless DH has a specific meal request.

Out. This year for my birthday (and it was my 30th) I had a bbq at home and it ended up being totally lame. I told my husband next year we're doing happy hour with family (the weekend before) and then we're going camping.

@JennyLayneAZ: haha yes, I kinda regretted it too. No one helped my husband cook so I ended up helping despite his complaints. So I was slightly annoyed I helped cook my own birthday meal bc no one else would help him!
Next year we're going out and we can all go dutch!

Go out because it's the only time I can justify spending money at a fancy restaurant.

I like to go out because I do all the cooking at home. DH prefers I cook him something special.

Our birthdays are two days apart, so usually I'll cook him something special and a cake for his birthday (sometimes his brother comes over, sometimes not) and then we go out for my birthday. We don't want two big dinners out 2 days apart.

Go out! It's not a birthday treat if I have to prepare a meal and then do dishes after!

I like to go out, or have DH make his homemade pizza. This year we are trying out a new BBQ place, and I will probably get take out for his bday because it is only 2 weeks after my EDD!

Go out. I wouldn't mind cooking for DH's birthday, but I think he'd prefer to go out too.

Go out! I love cooking but I hate dishes. We do our birthday desserts at home though.

We like to go out because we don't have time to make fancy meals at home with a toddler. It gives us a great excuse to have a date night too.

I do most of the cooking, so I prefer to go out for special occasions.

I went to culinary school and work part time as a personal chef, so when it's someone else's birthday or special occasion I usually end up doing all the cooking. That being said, when it's my birthday I always want to go out. I do enough cooking regularly!

it depends. if there is something I really want/craving that usually drives where we go. this year we had easter brunch for my meal...so I ended up helping to cook for our families. last year we went out for sushi!
